Dunnville

Been a while since I've posted a report as I don't fish much when its gets too cold :cry: but Saturdays weather was great and so I thought I'd head down to Dunnville to try for those big catfish for the first time. Arrived at Fishmasters with a few friends just before 12pm and fished the area near where the big flag pole is. Unfortunately by the time we had arrived, they had just sold out of cut bait so we made do with a bag of emerald shiners (at least I think that's what they were). Fished from noon until about 5. Ended up only catching 1 catfish and 1 drum between the four of us (both were mine :cry: ). All of us had a few hits each but we weren't too successful in hooking up. Heard that circle hooks were good for fishing for catfish but the shop was sold out of those too. All we had were wide gap worm hooks. The bite was on from 12-2 for us, but went pretty dead after that. Anyways, had a great day as I have never caught either of those kinds of fish before!

What did u get the drum on? I know a huge population of them right here in the GTA but they wont bite anything!

Is it me, or is fishing for channel cats at Dunnville taking on huge popularity?
I don't ever recall it being such a big hit with anglers judging from reports and whatnot.
Good to know there is another option out there before openers for other species. :cry:

YAWN, the drum was also caught on the emerald shiners. The fight felt identical to that of the catfish...heavy and lazy lol. Would love to know where to catch them in the GTA. They're pretty big relative to the stuff I normally catch.
