Yesterday was the perfect evening out with my dog.
We had to whack through (fairly) unchartered bush and crisscross the river in order to find a pool holding fish. But man, what sexy spot it turned out to be! I hit so many chromers, all on flies (and that’s a first for me). I changed the type of fly after every few fish. I was tricking them, you see.

I could not believe how acrobatic they were; I even saw one jump like a dolphin barely 5 ft from where I was wading. I have never witnessed anything like that before....not in real life anyway. I’m totally gushing right now!

You know, fishing the same holes over and over again is bo-ring. I feel accomplished having found this spot without any guidance or knowledge of what lay around each bend. It was a true hunt for chrome...and I SCORED. :D

I had to remove photos because all of my personal information and geographic location was attached and well....cray people out der

Way to go FG! I would never be able to bring my dogs with me. I would never be able to keep them out of the water! LOL!

Congrats FG. So i am guessing that now you are "hooked" on fly fishing?

Again congrats girl!!

Hard work usually does pay off! You will learn way more going out and doing what you're doing as opposed to being spoon fed... :)

Good work FG!

that pink fly. What is it??
I think the one in the middle is supposed to imitate a cluster of roe, I think... I picked up these flies and many others from reelflies.ca

Ha! I wasnt fly fishing, merely floating with flies. It was the first time I was able to get any action on flies. They never worked for me before....or maybe it was me that wasnt working them properly ;) I dont want to waste any time learning the fly while there are steel in the rivers. Catching is too valuable to me right now, I'll wait ;)

Thanks, Capt'n! I agree :D

That sounds amazing.

How do you make your flies sink?

I don't trust my dog near water anymore. Dude jumped into a pool after I threw in a sucker.

PUMP.....You set up your rig exactly the same as if you were fishing roe. Except a fly is the bottom element of the rig now instead of roe. the weighting you use take the fly down to the strike zone.

Great post! Fishing new waters is one thing, but fishing them with success is such an amazing feeling!

Congrats on the successful exploration!!

I've tried that with weighted flies but what about the ones that aren't weighted like the flies in FG's pic

I assume you use weights when you drift roe bags, correct? Well take off the roe bag and put on the fly. Viola!

same shotting pattern like it's roe pump. although I prefer dry flies than wet flies.

Better yet, just throw on a big juicy steak....aka night crawler
Makes it a bit harder to keep the fish you aren't targeting if you put on a big juicy steak though
