Right now I only got an Ugly Stik with a Browning spinning reel. My reel only only holds 12lb and im sure my rod would SNAP with a big fish on, Although I did haul in a 39" Muskie with it. Im headin down to Bluffers tonight to get some night fishin in.I Always go there in the morning I wanna see what its like during sun down.
I use my 7ft fiberglass rod with 15lb line for salmon. Had no problem, other than a 20 min fight.

Im ganna downsize to 10lb line this year and try it. Going lighter really gives you the thrill of the fight.

The line size on the reel doesnt indicate the max line size it can hold, its just there as a reference to the line-spool capacity.

Uglystiks are durable. should handle a salmon no prob.

How did the fishing go last night ? Shouldausedaliter
Man it was dead.....all night and I landed a lil smally. I did hit a few spots down there but wasnt getting anything. Im sure the white bucket crew killed that pond, all I seen were sunfish. BUT I def did see a salmon swimmin the shore of the marina. I had him interested in my twister tail but as soon as he opened his mouth the turned around and that was that.

But man I had no idea my gear would land me a salmon. I didnt wanna show up fishin for salmon looking like a complete noob. But then again, when it comes to salmon I am a complete noob lol. I just cant wait for my vacation pay pay to come in DEC. Im getting around $3200. After X-mas shopping the remainder will be going to new gear. man.... I really want to try out a baitcaster.

lol alas the sacrifice we make

I went to bluffers this afternoon, randomly decided to go. Lots of pike down there right now. I was sitting there for a couple mins relaxing and just watching them swim by, the water was real clear, and fairly low. I caught a perch, and a few sunfish. The perch was my personal biggest, I thought it was a bass untill I got him close. I was on the bridge and tossed my homemade crankbait. As I was reeling in I seen this monster Pike stalking my crank, and because I was on the bridge, the lure had surfaced. I tossed again trying to get this guy but he got away. Changed lures about about 20 mins later then got a big bite and seen the pike, not the one from before but a decent size one. As I was getting him in he got off.

As for the salmon they are not in. I seen what looked like a few browns swimming around, but as usual they have no interest in me lol.

i was out there 2 days ago didnt see any pike, where would you suggest, all i saw were perch. do you know if the boat launch area by the marina holds any fish or if the only real good spot is the bridge. Thanks in advance

If you are talking about the public boat launch almost directly south of brimley road, its dead. I have herd salmon pop in there during the run but other the that its no good. There is a parking lot to the east if you follow that road. The is a marina is right there and it has a few nice spots. there are these rocks on the south side of the marina, and that spot has been pretty nice, but most luck is around the bridge. You can fish either side and it is nice. You can find spots all around the marina that you can tell are fished often. Sometimes lures are left behind. Today I snagged a Rapala Rod. The top half was snapped so the rod was useless but its crazy the stuff you can find sometimes. Its always a bonus, esp if your getting skunked, which dont happen often at bluffers

thanks a ton bro, i might head on down, i heard from a charter captain that if you fish from the rocks at the opening of the marina theres lots of trout to be had, but its a hit or miss thing

I went down on sunday.
Caught an entire bucketful of gobies (50+), 2 perch, 1 bass.
And thats all i got for a 5hr fishing.

Sucked.

Hard.

I was down there sunday and got only perch. Seen a Pike. What time did you do? And what are you using, Worm? I have never caught a single goby there.
