I use my 7ft fiberglass rod with 15lb line for salmon. Had no problem, other than a 20 min fight.ShouldaUsedaLiter said:Right now I only got an Ugly Stik with a Browning spinning reel. My reel only only holds 12lb and im sure my rod would SNAP with a big fish on, Although I did haul in a 39" Muskie with it. Im headin down to Bluffers tonight to get some night fishin in.I Always go there in the morning I wanna see what its like during sun down.
Im ganna downsize to 10lb line this year and try it. Going lighter really gives you the thrill of the fight.
The line size on the reel doesnt indicate the max line size it can hold, its just there as a reference to the line-spool capacity.
Uglystiks are durable. should handle a salmon no prob.
