March 25th 2009. First trip out this year. Headed on down to the credit river located in Mississauga. Got there at about 10 this morning not knowing what to expect. Started at the mouth of the river in port credit but not a lot of action. So I decided to pack up and try things upstream. The weather was cool and it rained of and on and the river was flowing quite hard, with no signs of ice. There were a lot of fisherman out there surprisingly today and although it was cold and brisk it was relaxing to get out and throw some casts. Had to do some research on the regulations of the area as it was my first time out there. http://www.craa.on.ca/ was a good place to start. I got some salmon eggs just up the stream from a very helpful man who owns a small shop called Angling specialties, located at, 325 Central Pky W , Mississauga, ON, L5B3X9. The river shown here http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=credit...ent=firefox-a&um=1&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=il. There is free parking by the Burnhampthorpe bridge and just a quick hike down and threw a cast off right under the bridge and landed a steel head in about 20min. After a little while not much action so decided to head down river. There was a man made rock ledge just after a small bridge about 5min walk from the Burnhampthorpe bridge that seemed to be a decent pool. 4 hours of steady casting and 3 steelhead later I was completely satisfied and drifted on back home relaxed and looking forward to a summer full of great catches.

So here is a map of the river and where I was fishing. The first spot marked 1 was where I just threw casts down where the river splits and merges, the spot marked 2 is where I spent most of my day. Too bad I didn't think to bring the digital camera out. I am heading there bright and early tomorrow to try my luck again, this time not forgetting to bring the camera! I am quite new to fishing so I don't really know what drifting is, I was using a normal rod with a spinning reel from Canadian Tire, and a float with a small number 10 hook with a small cluster of salmon eggs I got from Anglers Specialties up the street. I just kept casting it in from the shore and when the current pushed the line back towards shore I would reel it in and try again.

Congratulations - good job!

So fishing for trout in this spot is right now? Or is it open all year ? I think I would like to come out one day next week there.

so if pacific salmon are open all year but atlantic aren't and you go fishing for pacific but catch an atlantic and get reported, what do you do? i've been wanting to ask this question for a while now

If you are fishing for a fish that is in season and happen to catch a fish that is not in season you are supposed to safely and quickly release the fish.
