Floro leaders

Hey all, here's a sceniero I'd like some input on from new and seasoned anglers.
So your setup for steelies consists of your main line, shot line and leader line. Well that's the average setup know some of you guys run just a main line and leader line.
So here's the thing anyone ever notice that say your using lets say 5lb floro and not getting any hit so you down size to say a 4lb floro and bamm instant hookup. So what's the difference? By all right floro is supposed to be invisable under water so how do you account for this hookup?
My only reasoning to explain this would be that the smaller test line will make the bait react differently because of the thinner diameter. What are your thoughts comments on this?

The bait could be acting different for sure. Maybe it's thinner so it's dropping in the water column that extra half ft. Or maybe that cast the fish was jus there. And I'm sure 10lb fluro can be seen under water more then 4lb. That's my input. I'm not an expert tho.

I would have to agree, I think the thinner line acts differently in the water and is probably less visible to the fish imo

I also think modifying your setup in small ways can cause the same sort of first drift hit after a modification. Whether is changing the shot pattern, leader, or bait.

I agree with those saying that the line is causing some small variation is the presentation. I don't think that 4lb. is less visible than 5lb. . I don't think that this change is often needed, but if you aren't getting hits and the fish are there it is something to try.

Fluorocarbon is not invisible underwater. Its light refraction index is closer to water than monofilament is.

You probably made leader couple inches longer or shorter when you replaced it. Couple inches in depth will make more difference than leader type.

x2 on the leader length probably put you in the strike zone. I've fished with a buddy using 8lb flouro when I was using 5lb and he hooked up as many as I did.

I think a lot of it is just random---dumb luck you might say. You may well have gotten the same hit if you'd hadn't changed anything.

50 / 50 Knuguy I have had bad days turn to good days with the change of float size and leader line strength, But I also agree that sometimes your just in the right place at the right time. There is a lot to say about leader length diameter and just plan old fishing knowledge. Just like the poker tournaments although luck plays a part the same guys always end up at the final table!!!!

Best to switch it up as much as possible because you never know whats going to turn a 1 fish day into a 10 fish day and in clear water i fully believe its better to run lighter line

exactly. If Fluro was invisble why not run 10lb lol. there is a reason I carry 5, 6, and 8lb on me at all times.. mind you, I have never used the 8 for trout.

Had the same situation a while back. Almost gin water. 5 of us hit 17 in the first hour. Then total shut down once it got light . We All were fishing drennan 6, i dropped down to 5 and started getting hits. After 5 or so fish my buds were like wtf is up? I told them to drop and everyone was on again.
