Fly Tying Photo Thread

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

Stripped peacock quill is what I use, take the fibres from the top of the feather in the eye, they have the widest stems, then either take the fluff off with an eraser or dunk the whole eye in a 1 to 1 solution of water and bleach and wait until they are stripped. For varnish I like any UV cement for the speed factor but any superglue or head cement will work, just be very careful not to get any glue in the hackle or wings.

Tied this one over the last couple days, I'm happy with a lot of it but there are many errors that need to be addressed in the next one.

please dont hesitate to point out the good and bad about my ties, im a noobie and could use a little constructive criticism, tips and new materials to tie and mix with,
and oh heres a modified stonefly i made, hope this one catches fish, from what i can see it has better proportions than the olive green one that i tied, but you guys will have a better opinion on this, check it out

thanks guys, i hope i did okay for the first few flies, thanks CD

CK wound the herl the wrong way. The married wing is nice but too long as well as the BM. Tippet a tad long and the GP well, you know the issue with those. Nice hackle though and great finish. Just an opinion from the pinning side of things.

welllllllll, thats a waaay to pro for me, it will be a better deal for me to find and catch a real stonefly, i would probably spend 2 weeks trying to tie that and it will never come as good as that, LOL!!!!

Very close, but there is no herl, that's a wool butt ;) you also missed the twisted tail veiling.

Not really. Saw the veiling but thought what the hell.
Think you should go herl but though.

well i haven't posted any pics for a bit, but heres an attempt at a bluegill imitation fly, its not perfect, missing the polar chenil underlay, eyes might be a little large, and the head is a little crowded, but i think the body looks pretty good

I believe that's the ice minnow? Looks good, I'd say your critique about the eyes and crowded eye was right. Only other thing I'd comment on is the dubbing, go a little lighter on it, the lighter you go the more transparent and mobile the fly will be.

was using cheech's low fat minnow, but lacking the polar chenil and the olive marabou, had to improvise a bit, so i added the red marabou, and went thicker on the laser dubbing
