i don't know about all fish but trout and char should not have there gills and head out of the water for more than a couple seconds and should not be touched ith dry hands. when i'm fishing in a boat i keep a cooler full of water in the boat so i can swing the fish into the cooler and take the the out easyer, i hate leaning over the side of the boat for long. also when buying a net try to get one with rubber coated string because it won't scratch the fishes skin and is less likely to split the fins.

"ILLEGAL to release a dying fish"

I guess it comes back to what exactly is a dying fish?

If we are being right picky u could say once it's out of the water the fish is therefore dying.

disspatcher nothing personal I know it aint your rule but that there is one of the dumbest the ministry has come up with. Wouldn't it make sense to add it back to the ecosystem and let the little critters who make up the food chain get something free?

And I'll totally disagree with "If every angler who practiced catch and release fought the fish out for the fight"

U could turn that around and say that if every angler kept every little tiny thing they caught "white bucket anglers we had a rant about them" we would be far worse off so I totally 100% disagree on that.

So bottom line is each person has to be responsible, I think most fishermen do take care of the environment.
I do agree that the regs are not perfect but do serve some sort of a purpose. As far as a fish being out of water and dying..YES IT IS...and there are regs on how long you can keep a fish out of water....especially on out of season fish. There have been Wardens who definatly take this a little out of hand. For example; an out of season trophy bass....you can actually get fined for keeping the fish out of water for a length of time while you fiddle around looking for your camera! Yes a little ridiculous but some rules are strict to the that point, and some are not strict enough. I agree;;it is all about being responsible and keeping our resourse in mind.
Here are a few tips on catch & realease for those who care...keep in mind these are only tips, not regs....but you can dig a little deeper if ya like.

Yes that is 100% correct.

If everyone had that mind frame we wouldn't need such laws.
