Not sure if folks around here still remember me, I've been gone for a little while and the internet had a short memory. Well like others before the usual excuses took control and other aspects of my life such as, my academics, family, friends, volunteering and a legal case have come to the forefront and have taken time out of my schedule for this site and for actually fishing. Though I am still tying flies just not using them... This site has been a great online place for me and I have learned a lot and have appreciated many topics and posts and comments made by some members here, though when I was a more active member I can recall some online altercations (Can we even call them that? - If's the internet people loosen up!!!)

For me when I first joined, the site felt like a family, "a site with a heart" now from the little bit that I have been on, it feels more like a machine, it could be progress, but then I'm not one for change (ya ya I know about how I've got to change with the times or I'll die out, "whatever" :D)...

I guess what I'm trying to do is to explain why I haven't been on here for a while and to say goodbye and thanks to you. I can't leave without thanking a few guys here, foremost, Openfire for creating this site and then in alphabetical order (cause it's coming straight off my manage friends page...), Alfigee, alwayscatching, BackwoodsBassr, Blair, Bowman, buck, Catfish, chalkhorse, Chasechrome (still on here??? :???: ), DILLIGAF?! (why did you change your name? Can't figure how to pronounce this for the life of me! :D ), Dozer, Dugger (he's gone - I think), FISHCHRIS, FishHawk, Giuga10, goodentight, grubman (Gone), JMatt1983, manitoubass2, MichaelAngelo, NADO, SmackUm, Remy (Schnip, whatever the hell he calls himself). I got to thank all of the guys except Remy for providing me with knowledge, laughter and a good time and many opportunities to fish with them. Remy I got to thank you for always being there waiting to be my debating opponent and for taking everything with a grain of salt and knowledge that it is just the internet. :D I enjoyed every minute reading all of your guy's posts.

I feel that in return for sharing so much information with me I owe you something. I'm actually 16, I think most of you guessed it but I choose not to post it on my profile in case you guys brushed me off, but I am proud to say that after getting to know you, none of you would anyways. Any of you want to contact me just shoot me an email at my fishing address, [email protected] I'll hang around for a few days to see if anyone replies and to respond to the comments but once it dies down, I'm gone. I thought I would conclude my time on this forum with one of my posts that makes me the proudest that I wrote in response to a member talking about his "Fisherman's Code."

Like I conclude the majority of my pm's...

Cheers,

Matt

Myself and a few others on this forum have a different Fisherman's Code, a code where you help each other learn and become better anglers through the sharing of long held secrets that might and might not include spots depending on the person whether that be teaching a new comer at the pier a better knot or how to set up the drag on a reel right. My code includes getting people young and old involved in the sport any way possible whether that means taking someone to my "honey hole" or sending them a helpful pm. The number of "die hard' fisherpeople has declined, wouldn't you love to see fishing become more popular? My code involves picking up trash that I don't leave. My code has no tolerance to fishing outside of the regulations, my code supports fish stocking and methods to increase the fish population. My code involves helping another angler carry his tackle box back to the parking lot. My code involves answering the little boy/girls question and the age old question of "Catch anything?" truthfully even if it means the person asking the question is going to start coming to the spot. The code I follow respects other anglers by giving other anglers their space and not following them around like a puppy with an issue, giving an angler who snagged his last hook one of mine, or lending another angler some of my live bait. My code isn't about changing your lure to an unproductive one when you see someone coming. My code involves seeing the best in other anglers whether that be seeing an angler I reported keeping illegal fish, fish legally. My code involves teaching people even newer to fishing then me. Sure I might have as much time on the water as some of you guys, but I do my research. I think others appreciate that I follow my code of fishing and not yours. I sure enjoy spending as much time as I can in nature whether that be walking my dog or taking a stroll to the super market and I still enjoy fishing even if I get skunked 10 times in a row, but others might not and just because they don't doesn't mean they can't fish. My code is about being accepting to all anglers no matter their race, fishing ability or determination. Some people may get defeated quicker then others but that just means they should receive more support from us, more experienced anglers. The code I follow is all about supporting one another and the sport that we love, whether that be congatulating a member for building a raft to hold his supplies that might not look professional but gets the job done to an ecstatic young new comer to the forums who posts a photo of a steelhead on a stringer that he will take home for his family to enjoy.

I hope that I help people through fishing and that I show thanks for the help that I received and continue to receive from a few.

I don't mean to put the forum down in any way because it is a great site, but because of the attitudes of a few here the atmosphere has become less and less friendly and inviting and I hope that once the steelhead season is over the forum and it's members can go back to it's old self for the sake of the admins and mods that work hard to stop and prevent fights. Lets remember that we all became anglers for a reason and that reason was not to fight with each other over stupid stuff like gear, techniques or locations. We became anglers because at the end of the day we enjoy spending time outdoors with our friends and families whether that be basking in the sun, freezing in the rain or enjoy the fresh cold air ice fishing. We became anglers because we like biology (believe it or not), we like to study fish to learn what they eat and where they live, how they reproduce and the best way to maintain high fish populations. We became anglers because most of all we love the sound of our drag's screaming, we love the challenge and we love our spots. We love the fight whether that be from a small sunfish to a 5 lb bass to a monster muskie, pike, salmon or carp. We became anglers because we love every fish we ever catch, because fish tales haunt us in our sleep.

Lets remember that we didn't join the forums to fight with other anglers over which fish species, setup, and other bits of fishing is the best, we joined because we hoped to learn, to educate, to laugh and have fun, to meet new people, and to catch more fish. Lets cut each other some slack, I think you will find it will make the forum a much happier and welcoming place for new comers and veterans alike, lets worry about catching fish and helping people not putting people down. It is a shame to see such a great site brought to it's knees by so few (all who fight with each other including me). I hope this posts shows that I care for our sport, our fish, our lakes, rivers and ponds, and other anglers. I pray that some one can find this post and decide to help a fellow angler and not turn a blind eye.

Thanks and lets all promise to be nice to each other and not put each other down and not irritate each other, and lest we forget we all care about the same things, the fish, family, friends and having a good time.

hate to see ya go FishingNoob I've noticed you haven't been on here too much lately, this site isn't quite the same without you guys on here, ill miss ya thats for sure

One of my favourite sayings is "timing is everything". There is a right time and a wrong time for everything in life. Tight lines to ya!

Sad to see you leave buddy. And very honored to be mentioned in your thank you. Hopefully I'll see you around on the other forum I frequent.

You were a great member.

Tight lines and I wish you all the best in the future,
Giuga10

BTW I love your fishermans code. That's what a real angler lives by.

Thanks buck, it's all about presentation in fishing and I think presentation also plays a big role in life, at least in my experience.

Sorry to see you go noob. You have been a great contributor to the forum and one of the most positive and down to earth members on the forum.
Thanks hamiltonangler94 if a small amount of time and effort on my behalf can make a big difference in your performance on the water it is worth it for me.

On a side note I have deleted some PM's so if any of you tried to contact me through my PM's and couldn't you can now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We're similar ages, yet I have learned so much from you and your posts. The skill and instinct you have for fishing no matter the species are rare. I might see you on the other forum, probably not. You know where to contact me though and I am hoping to do more volunteer work with TUFA so I might see you at one of their events. All the best.

we didn't interact much, but sad to see a contributor go. also since you are only 16, I will ruin the surprise for you. most the human kind is parasitic and rarely contributes or cares for others. good you've learned this lesson early in life and it will make you ready for the real world.

Hate to see you go mrnoob, you were one of the good ones! for being 16 your maturity level is well beyond that and it showed in your posts. you will most definitely be missed

Cheers, FN it has not been the same around here with out you, and will not be the same with out you here. You are what I like to call "good people" All the best to you.
