I saw something on the MNR site about how you can troll with two lines on a Great Lake. And I heard from someone that this also applies at the mouth of tribs and upstream for a certain distance.

Is this true? If so, anyone know how far upstream?

From a boat you are allowed 2 lines in the water !! From shore you are allowed 1 line in the water!!

2 lines from a boat only in open Great Lakes water, or anything that falls in those ZONES...

You can't be in a boat in a trib with 2 lines... Unless the zone boundary goes upstream? Anyone confirm that? Like lower niagara...

(I guess lower niagara would also have to take into account NY regs too)

This is from the regs

Hooks and Lines – An angler may use only one line, unless otherwise stated in the regulations. Two lines may be used when angling from a boat in parts of the Great Lakes (see exceptions to the general regulations) and for ice fishing in many areas (see Ice Fishing, page 11). A fishing line must not have more than four hooks attached.

You only need to follow NY regs if your fishing the NY side.

I think Its 2 in Lake O, 2 in Huron but only one line in Georgian bay.

so on a lure only, so no loogan hoking up 4 trebles under his float
you can put 4 hooks under a float if you wend to but I've had the second hook get stuck on a rock and broke me off so 4 hooks would be hard to keep the fish from breaking you off

Read and understand the regulations, if you have any questions about a specific area or regulation contact the MNR directly or visit the website.
This particular question I couldn't find answer to on this site which led me to posting on here. But now that you mention about contacting them, I've emailed them this question and another I have been curious about.

Read the regs to get it right. Here's an example of where people can go wrong: Frenchmans Bay is in the same FMZ as Lake Ontario, but you are only allowed one line in the water, as with many other bays adjoining the lake. As far as I know you may only use one line in tributaries, no matter whether you are in a boat or on shore. Great link. That answers the question. All tribs excluded from the definition of Lake O. I think if you were allowed 2 lines on a trib for a certain extent upstream of the mouth then it would have mentioned it. So I guess it's not true.
