Hi guys I am just wondering I want to go ice fishing at lake simcoe but never been ice fishing before. I want to catch a lake trout or a white fish but I'm having trouble on how to catch them I understand that you have to be in the middle of the lake to catch them so when is the best time to catch them and if the ice is safe because I don't want to die lolz. Another thing I want to ask is do you need to rent a hut because its freaking expensive if not what other alternative do I have can I just drill my own holes and what kind of equipment do I need to grill a hole in the ice and how much would it coast. thanks

No help from me fishing wise.
You'll need an auger, WARM clothes!, ice rod, and an ice scoop.

I don't think you'll be able to get into whitefish or lakers yet, as the bay in barrie isnt frozen at all yet. I hear of people going out for perch, but that's in cooks bay.
