Just disgusting / a petition to MNR?

Dared the storm to go fishing today. Ended up seeing flooded rivers and this scene that has shocked me since morning.

We can blame the people (if you can call them human) for doing this but I think to stop them from doing such a thing is the MNR's job! I have had my share of being threatened y these yoohoos that do not know the basics of nothing. What the hell is MNR doing? 2 years of fishing and I have never encountered an officer. I am sure if they show a steady presence, gradually these kind of people that abuse our resources will either disappear or will learn to behave like a civilized person.

I don't know what MNR's problem is?! if it is financial, I bet they can generate enough revenue from the fines to stop this (just like police does!). Alternatively, they can get some people as volunteer, with enough authority/power to report the wrongdoers.
Do you guys think a petition to MNR will help? I think there are enough people on this forum and others to support a petition.

I wonder if there is more to the story then what meets the eye. Maybe when these people made a fire, they found a couple of fish that were already dead and tossed them into the fire as they were leaving? The MNR can in no way monitor the 250,000 lakes and countless rivers in this province. They are way understaffed and I think they need to change the way they operate. There are enough people out there who care about our environment and fishery that they could train a voluntary group to help monitor and police this valuable resource.

I don't think that a petition would lead to any action. The money generated by licence fees should go to the MNR so that they can hire more enforcement officers . You cannot have a bunch of well meaning fishermen pretending to be enforcement officers because of the liability issues that would arise.

About their presence. I did see them this year in Snaggers Park in Bronte. Was glad they finally showed up lol their phone must've been ringing off the hook =P.

That's all I've seen of them though.

C.O. s are definately in short supply. We've had more license checks done by O.P.P. officers than C.O. s. Last fall was my very first encounter with a C.O. on the Notty in 16 years .
I know smaller tribs around here have more attention like the Pine river for example , C.O. s nailed a guy a few years back sitting on the bank fishing with a bucket beside him.
Apparently he had over 20 steelhead parrs in the bucket , when asked if he knew the limit , he said didn't matter how many 'cause they are so small I have to keep alot to make it worth my while.
The government needs to get back on track , to put ALL the money from licensing into more conservation officers .

You know I think they should start using signage. Maybe at entrances to parks where people go to fish have a sign with important regs and associated fine amounts. I think that's a good idea.

I would def sign a petition, i would sign over and over again untill something was done about. I would even be a volunteer as well. As volunteers were just keep an eye on whats going on, and when we see something thats illegal, than we call the MNR or local authorities to comes take care of it. Problem is I can't see some local authorities really giving a crap.

pay to fish worked in essa twp. angus used to remind me of the slaughter pool but now that anyone can stop by and smash you with a ticket you dont see much rift raft there.....not that i would ever pay to fish the notty through essa twp. they should implement something like that at the wilmot i would pay 100 bucks a season to fish there and it would be so worth it not to see anyone from the united salmonoid snagging republic there. I love the fact that the tribs up here are all housed up for most part and i can enjoy miles of private creekbank. If we see any outsiders they are delt with promptly as the landowners expect us to keep yahoos off their property while they're at work. you dont even see a coffee cup on the whole creek except for at the snagging pool, too bad there just wasnt more fish.

Slicing a dirty old Salmon and throwing it on the bank (even males :shock: ) is disgusting, torching fish of any species is down disgraceful and leaves a very uneasy feeling in my gut. Even if ALL the license money went to the ministry to hire more officers, there just would be no way to cover everywhere, all the time. Would it help? Sure, but I really don't see a major improvement with what someone said earlier 250,000 bodies of water in this province. Maybe the ministry should poll the license buyers to see what bodies of what need to be protected more and throw more resources toward those waters, but then waters of "secondary" importance would then be feasted upon by the savages.

Would we have the right to make a citizens arrest if we saw such despicable acts?

I'm up for anything to keep these waters safe and available to my kids when they're older, we already bring garbage bags with us to collect trash on our fishing trips, if anything more can be done... Let's do it

2 days ago we went to a buddy of mine's basecamp on a small isolated lake on crown land and guess what????? some group of mauraders had used all the provisions onsite, left a huge mess burned the 10x16 modular tent and stole the 12ft boat, the canoe, and the small outboard. these d-bags are everywhere!
