This is update from my report on the same place (originally posted on April 19) . I went again to Lake Simcoe Marina on April 24.
I am not going to post directions and maps and photos of the place again, you can see this in my first report here:

http://www.ontariofishingforums.com/forum/lake-simcoe-marina-april-19-t576.html

Arrived there at around 7:20 AM. 5 -6 people were already there fishing. Temperature was about 12 C, slight wind from north, water clear. As soon as I came one of the people fishing there started complaining how fishing was slow & fish was not biting. This was, he explained, due to a wind blowing cold water into marina (?) Anyways, soon enough I discovered that he was saying the truth as fishing was nearly as good as several days ago when I visited last time. You could see large schools of perch swimming around but barely taking any bait.
I was fishing using worms or small minnows under the float. After a while, as it was worming up, fishing started improving. By then, fishermen that arrived early – already started leaving, I guess they were not happy if they do not catch 100+ fish per day, so they considered this day as “slow”. Fish being caught, on average, was bit smaller in size comparing to April 19 fishing.
As the weather wormed up, it was getting better and better. I was also using this opportunity to experiment with different fishing methods / tactics, so beside worms and small minnows, I was trying artificial lure (small soft plastic minnow) jig under the float as well as Lindy rig. All methods produced fish; fishing with live small minnow produced the best result by far, while fishing with artificial lure (small soft plastic minnow) jig under the float was the worst by far.
As far as I am concerned, I still had pleasurable trip. I stayed till about 1:20 PM, I did not count, but I think I caught about 30 – 40 fish in total.
Released all but 5 fish, all 5 survived trip back to Toronto and ended up in my bathtub , as you can see it here

(you know – kids like to see them)

Two of them were bit larger, about 11” or so, and about 1lb, you can see them here :

I like perch, it tastes very good, but I really dislike cleaning it so I rarely eat it. This time I thought, let me try make fish fillets out of it. I have never done this before, so it was a struggle at first but in the end, I think I made it all right as you can see here:

Final result -as my younger son would say: “Mmmmm, mighty tasty”

Mighty tasty was this lake Simcoe perch, indeed!

I thought you cheated by fishing in your bath tub. (Oh i bet i did try to hook'em too!!) LOL Just kidding.

How long did the perch survive in the tap water? :D

Oh, recipe is nothing special, very simple indeed. I just put some salt & a bit of spice that we use back home (it is called "Vegeta" ) then put fillets in flour and fry them like that. When finished, you can sprinkle a bit of lemon juice on it .
If you are interested in Vegeta spice, No Frills sells that spice and you can usually get it there (but use it sparingly since it can be too strong if you put too much)

Hey MikeyMikey,

good to hear from you, you always add some nice funny comment. How long they survived, 2 of them lasted only 4-5 hours, but 2 biggest one survived a bit more then 24 hours. Last year I had 2 bass that lived almost 3 days in my bathtub

MikeyMikeywhat are you up to these days, I mean where are you fishing? C'mon , don't keep goodies only for yourself, share , share..

I think that your favorite is salmon fishing from Port Credit in fall, but what about now? Are you going to go to TO Island for some piking soon?

I used all purpose flour, but I think you can use pretty much any flour, including whole wheat . I believe you are right, Pike , walleye, opens Saturday May 10. Oh man, I never caught any pike or walleye, I am hoping to catch one or other this year.

Hey frozenfire,

did you try fillet perch too? I am pretty sure you fillet crappies, so I am just wondering what is easier to do, to fillet crappies or perch?

i'm pretty sure the crappies are easier to fillet cause they are bigger. i've never cleaned perch though.

Nah... i don't fish as much as you guys think. Sure I love salmon fishing,,, where can you catch a big fish like that from shore? besides it's a short period of time... so i enjoy the heck out of it.
Yes, i'll be visiting that little island south of toronto.(don't want to say where)

Now back to your topic...
You've just made a big mistake and I am gonna get you for that!!

You've said biggers ones survived for more than 24hours and 3day for bass. Why did you keep those fishes in there for so long? why not chop'em and fry'em ?
But most importantly!!! that means you have not taken shower for 3 days!!!
(maybe your home got more than one shower)

oh and maybe you should take me fishing with ya

maybe i'll stop by Jack's Point. Haven't fished there since Bonnies locked up their docks.

wow they're huge!!! big bellies haha.
coming from a not so fond of fish eater, they look delicious =D.

Yeah, I knew you were going to try to get me, I expected no less. But I have an answer for you, I can take them and put them in a bucket while taking a shower :D :D :D

But really , I did keep them in bathtub, nice size bass too, and here is the proof :

Sure, that would be nice, The only thing is I am not planning going there again soon. I am planning to :
1. try catch some trout,
2. and then (when season opens) go for walleye & pike (for pike I am going to TO Island ; you know I got your report from last year and I am going to hit those spots of yours) ,
3. finally - going to Dunnville for some carp and channel catfish.

If any of these sound interesting, we can organize and go together sometimes ?

When do you plan on visiting Toronto Island?

Problem I have with shore fishing the place like island with others is that... i enjoy walking a lot more than a lot of people are willing to walk. Especially due to my lack of patiences with working same area for long

Maybe we'll walk by each other...

I think I am gonna print out my own logo and stick it on to back of my bag.

I plan on visiting Toronto Island soon (very soon) after season on pike opens. I do not mind walking at all.

What do you consider "working same area for long" , like, how much time is too long ( minutes, hours ?) or how many casts ?
