Looking to buy a baitcaster

I know 3 guys, one who has been steelheading 25 years, one 20 years and one 15 years and they all use a baitcaster (all of which have used a pin too but went back). One uses a core 51mg, one a shimano chronarch and one a curado. It can be incredibly effective, all of them do amazingly well on it. For rods, they use an IMX or Frontier with and acid wrap in the 10'6" - 11' range. I have heard of rods being up to 14' with a baitcaster but just remember that you dont have the weight of a pin to help balance it, so the longer you go the more tip heavy it will be. Don't reccomend anything near 8'-9' you wont be able to keep line off the water and your drifts won't be as nice. I believe St Croix makes a 10'6 avid or perhaps wild river, one of the two. That would be a good starting point, but hard to find used.

honestly i would look at getting the abu garcia black max...i dont personally have one but ive heard nothing but good things about it...u cant beat the price either

Also have this to trade Schnip, you're gonna need something to chase resident browns with when the steel is gone. Its about as used as the rest of ur fly rods.

I'll ask around before I build one but i'm thinking since I would be using it on big water I would want it to be at least 12'. This project is a long way down the road though, the reel will be used for bass first I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't want to buy a different type of baitcaster for floating vs flipping.

nado i have a 2wt inperial..lol stcroix that is....but the reign is an older model no>? a bit interested cause its got a bit of a slower action which i might desire once i get better at chuckin flies---what else you got for the fly world?--not to say i am ruling out the reign just wondering

The reign is an older model, comes with a lifetime warranty. I have another st croix 8 wt, cant remember the model and a fisheads 4wt along with a few reels. They aren't for sale though.
