And I'll start it off.
Had no opinion cause I've never used a center pin reel.
At 60 yrs old finally gave in to the peer pressure on the river.
Grabbed myself an islander and Loomis glx rod.
Spooled her up with fly line backing and
340 yrds of 6 lb test mono.
Finally got some experience with my new setup on this years trout opener.
Went 5 for 8.
Was asked by veterans how many broke off with the 6 lb test.
Short answer none.
2 lost on croc roll and 1 broken hook at hook gap.
Croc roll issue cause I allowed slack in line, being a rookie and constantly looking at what center pin reel was doing. Lol
Was a blast on the 1 to 1 battle but found it quite exhausting.

Have to admit I missed my Stradic and relaxing auto drag .
Learning curve I'm assuming.

Better late then never bud! As long as fish are hitting the bank I'll use a 2 ft pink Barbie rod just cuz. Is it ideal, no... Do I care, no... is it fun, HELL YEAH... That's just it. As long as you are enjoying the outdoors and having fun that's all that matters. My next goal is to land one on a Cuban YoYo lol.

Wow TI, all this time I thought you've been center pinning for years

Despite the rain, cold and windy weather we got on opener, I managed to go 4/12

As for my center pin reel, I don't use any backing. Just 150 yards of 8-10 lb test floating mono. It works well since I mainly fish small-medium size lake ontario tribs

If I look as awkward using it as it feels in my hand right now,you certainly wouldn't think years. Lol
