This pond is now getting hammered? That's very bad news. The pond is simply too small to sustain that kind of fishing pressure.
Frozenfire said that he's finding it harder to catch fish here. That indicates that either the fish are adapting to the fishermen, or there are less fish due to ppl practicing catch and keep. Let's hope it's the former rather than the latter.
I haven't fished this pond yet since bass opened, but I will definitely investigate the situation soon.
agreed. this pond is definitely too small to sustain either the heavy pressure or catch and keep.
i'm sure most of you that fished this pond have already noticed that the water level has dropped significantly from last year... we're not talking about inches, but feet. I remember last year where I caught literally so many bass on every cast, but that same spot this year is only 4-5 inches deep.
I'm assuming that because of the drop in water level, there is less water, thus less fish (more competition for resources, such as food and habitat). Also, the lower the water, hte more it heats up.
I also recall that earlier on in the season, there was a major fish die-off. We're talking about hundreds of pumpkinseeds, bluegill and bullheads. I didn't see any bass though. This could be due to the lower water levels and our crazy weather with teh cold and warm fronts.
i've never seen any fisherman take fish from this pond, but then again, i don't fish it very often.
maybe the fish are just adapting to the lure presentations we're throwing at them... who knows.
