Mono vs braid

Hey folks gunna spool up my new line for pike and bass reels ... What's lines are you off members using this year for medium and heavy action game fishing ... What colours do you prefer ??? Last year I used a 20 and 40 lbs green braid in all my reels

For all around fishing I use anywhere from 15 to 20 pound braid...its thin enough to let you cast long distances but more than strong enough for most fishing situations

Braid is the way to go. As Calvin said above 15-20 is all you need. Finish it off with a 10lb fluro leader around 6ft.

Green mono all around. Nothing against braid. I've experimented with braid and realized the advantages immediately, but I prefer the bit of stretch of mono when chucking lures.

Med bass/pike spinning: 8lb (smaller rapalas, mepps)
Med bass casting: 12lb (cranks, jerks, spoons, topwaters)
Med/Heavy bass casting: 17lb (spinnerbaits, spoons, weedless frogs)
Med/Heavy pike casting: 14lb (medium - large jerks, spoons, big cranks, spinnerbaits, big mepps)

50lb+ power pro green moss. cant go wrong. iv caught from perch to muskie, from bass to catfish.

id go with braid any day. yes its more expensive but worth every lb of it.

id go with power pro or spiderwire. from my research those are the best for braid. And IVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH A LOT

spider wire is garbage compared to powerpro, i spool my bass/pike/walleye reels with 15 lb power, sorry to say but 50 lb powerpro is just a little overkill for perch, LOL

i know but i can catch anything on 50lb. when ur on a budget 50lb is the best.
because of no stretch u still feel the fish even perch on the braid compared to mono were ur have 20% stretch.
i have 50lb because its practical for me.

i did some tests on the spiderwire and powerpro and both broke around 50lb or just under so to me i dont see a diff.

I find power pro cast way better then spider wire, with spider wire i cast about the same as with mono, with powerpro i cast further and smoother, also the technology powerpro uses doesn't damage your guides like normal braid. I use 50 lb power pro for musky, big pike, sturgeon in montreal, big carp, as well as salmon and steel for trolling on the lake.

Yep spiderwire braid is complete junk..it frays easily and doesn't hold a knot. I just use moss green powerpro

I've got a reel spooled with 20lb Suffix Hi-Vis Orange (the older suffix, not their newest type, this older 6 strand is crap and very loud when reeling)
and another reel with 10lb Power Pro original in Hi-Vis Yellow that I absolutely love. I also have 8lb Invisx Flouro that I use as leader. After trying out braid towards the end of last season, I couldn't believe the difference in sensitivity and control I felt that I had over mono line. No memory and I find it much more manageable for tying knots. I also haven't had any problems with frayed line yet which is a common problem I hear with braid. When I used mono I spent a lot more time untangling knots and dealing with problems coming off the reel, I have more confidence with braid that's for sure, and I think that's the biggest factor in fishing, your confidence.

Power Pro super slick.
Its a few more bucks but is a superior braid. I run 30 lbs most of the time but have 10, 20 and 50 lbs in use on other reels. I run 10 and 20 on my spinning reels with 8lbs fluoro leader.
The advantage of the super slick is it is easier on your guides. Learn how to tie and palomar knot and you are good to go.
I switched all my braided reels over to super slick after trying it once. I ran regular power pro and couldn't believe the difference it made.

Sorry to be blunt, but Spider Wire isn't real braid. It's more like sewing thread with a flaky green coating that rubs off after one trip. Not worth a dime. Please buy Power Pro. It will give you the full advantage of fishing real braid.

I like running 10 pound Braid on my "LIGHT" rod, and 20Lbs Braid on my all round rod, I run 30Lb Braid color code(color changes ever 10 feet) on my trolling set-up (for lake-trout/ splake and rainbow) and on my big game rod 50Lbs braid is good

power pro seems to be what I'm going to try out ... and green is what ive always used. is that what all you use? and what a good brand of fluorocarbon line?

Yep moss green power pro. I personally use Berkley vanish for fluoro leaders. A lot of people don't like the stuff but I've never had any issues with it.
