Started out with a worm on a jig, early in the AM and hit some action right away

Followed by a few more smaller ones, I then switched onto a small floating rapala when I saw them all breaching and hit another few decent ones

Switched to the hula popper and got one real fast followed up by an incredible hit. I didn't realize I was caught on a lily pad before I set the hook I yank back and *snap* goodbye favorite popper

Went back to the worm for another few casts as I was angry about losing my favorite popper and got a hit the second it touched the water. I barely saw it as I was about to take my picture. A GIANT hook, I mean like a 2 inch hook with a half inch barb sticking out of his belly. I kept him out an extra minute to perform a brief surgery, wiggled the hook loose let him go and he took off. Hopefully makes it.

Well that must have gained me some fish karma because I strapped on another hula and I was pulling them out non-stop

And the best ending to the day? The reason for this post. Luck of the cast I got it back! Long post but it was a great day out on the local waters yesterday.

good stuff bearinthewoods, nice bass, thanks for posting and sharing.Good on you for removing the hook from the fish, that must have been crazy to get your popper back as well :D

Hula Poppers fell down from heaven years ago. Don't question them just use them and have fun.

Honestly man it was the last thing I expected, dead serious the last cast too. We had an alarm go off at work and I got called in to check it out... cut my fishing short but again a little bit of luck for a good ending to the day. That hulapopper has seen hundreds of mouths and now hopefully hundreds more :D

awsome fishing mate. just wondering how to get there?
I've been to spots like this, they took me there blind folded in the back of a white van.

Though I won't just give away a spot publicly, PM is a different story and I'm definitely open to spot exchanging!!! I don't think spots should be hidden from everyone and I love sharing but when there are 1000+ guests at any time I'm not down for publicly outing them.

I'm desperate to get some decent sized pike this year. I've tried a dozen NEW spots this year and aside from the million bass have only got one pike and the pic is shameful so I'll keep my memory of my 14 inch pike to myself... :(

Again PLEASE someone PM me, take me with you, drop me a riddle... anything that might lead me to some pike before end of season. I'd be happy to take someone out to some good bass spots as long as they show the spot the same privacy and respect that I do.

You should try out Mountsberg Conservation..... was there this weekend a got 3 nice Pikes. Father inlaw got 2 REALLY nice large mouth.

Really??? I'm pm'ing you about that, I used to have fantastic luck there but this year and last was (pike)skunked each of the 4 times I've been... though 2 were with my youngun so much of the time was spent not really fishing.

I should really clarify few things...

I'm not looking for tips or advice on how to target pike
I don't own a boat of any sort so shore-fishing only
I'm in the 'sauga but will drive just about anywhere for a fishing day trip

Bowman, That's is great to know that you can hook onto pike from the shore... Thanks for sharing... Would you mind telling what lure you used?

I was using a spinner bait white and silver in colour. Not sure of the name brand. ( sorry ).

I was fishing in some fairly shallow water 6-8ft, fishing the weed bed i could see. If you know mountsberg We where fishing the "smaller" body of water close to the train tracks. And yes we where fishing from shore.

Dandy bass, thanks for the report. Surprised the Hula Popper works for you, I've never done well with it!

As for pike... keep working the slow, warm parts of your normal rivers, with big lures. Sooner or later you'll get a toothy surprise, and while you're waiting you'll get some honkin' big bass.
