Hi there,

Our family recently moved from Winnipeg to Southern Ontario. Our whole lives have featured yearly fishing trips to Lake of the Woods in the Sioux Narrows area with memories of incredible fishing trips with my parents. We are hoping to recreate those memories for our kids post move and have rented a cabin up in the Kawarthas on Stoney Lake at Clearview Resort. I have been trying to source information online to help us get started but would appreciate any experienced comments about gear and lake location for an August fish. Ideally would love to grab some walleye but sounds like the lake is more geared to bass. At the end of the day, just want the kids to have a positive experience with a few fish on every hour.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to building some memories in a new part of the province!

Hello, Iam very familiar with stoney lake aswell as some of the other kawartha lakes in the area like lower buckhorn pigeon and sturgeon lake. They all have great fishing. Hopefully you have a fish finder because walleye fishing becomes tricky without them. Fishing wacky worms or spinnerbaits in weed beds is always a great combination for L.M bass. You wont have a problem keeping the panfish off the line for the kids plenty of bluegill perch and rock bass for the kids with the worms! Good luck cant wait to see your report. Don't forget the scenary is also very beautiful on this lake!

Good luck on Stoney you should be able to find some Walleyes . If you want to try Pigeon , Sturgeon or Upper Buckhorn send me a PM I might be able to help . My son and I target Muskies now but have fish for Bass and Walleyes on earlier trips .
