hey guys and gals pleasure to be on this forum and looking forward to reading some awesome infor/ reports. steelhead fishing on the lower niagara river has been heating up with good numbers of big fish moving in. Fish are being taken on minnow imitations, roe, and yarn. Heres a few from the last couple weeks.

Thanks for the info and Welcome to OFF!

Nice fish!

I noticed that you were fishing from shore in that last pic - quick question for you that I'm sure a lot of guys here who do shore fishing also would like to know... Can you give a little more detail as to some shore fishing tactics on the Niagara? When you're shore fishing the Niagara for steelhead this time of year, are you bottom bouncing, float fishing, etc...?

I definitely want to give the Niagara a shot this year.

nice fish, i have yet to catch a steelhead and i'm going to do whatever i can to make sure that hapens this spring, so thanks for the info

Whatta nice fishes!

I was looking for some Niagara fishing guide, but they are all quite expansive if you go to fish alone, the better would be to have someone to share with me. I was also thinking to do some shore fishing, but I have no idea how is the Niagara River shore (if it is dangerous or not, easy to acess...) I´ve just arrived in Canada a couple of months ago and all that I tried is some Lake Huron tributaries where I found some nice steelies in the fall, but I didn´t fish winter yet once I didn´t find any good fishing conditions...

Niagara is a little bit far from me (Barrie), but I still want to try it!

Ya nice picks...and welcome to the forum...lotsa helpful friendly people here who love to fish! and yes we would all like to know about some of your techniques for fishing the niagara from shore.

bottom bouncing with a 3 way is my go to tactic for steelies from shore. if you are fishing below the queenston bridge down to the mouth most shore spots are 20' + of water and STRONG currents. use 1/2 - 1-1/2 ounce weight depending on the current and bottom structure[ lighten up in rocky/ snaggy areas]. 6 -10 lb. 4' leads min. and up to 8' when water is very clear. BIG roe bags are usually the go to bait but as the water clears downsize. minnows, yarn, kwick fish, and streamers are all other good producers. If you want to shore fish above the queenston bridge [ either the glen or the whirlpool be prepared for a long and steep walk in]. Fishing in the glen or whirlpool is more suited for float fishing but some spots can be bottom bounced and as the water warms up spoons and kwickies etc. take good numbers of fish.
