Re: Island tournament.

The Island is a great place to have a tourney, and we wouldn`t need permission, we can gather ther grab a picnic area to set up in, have a BBQ set up tents whatever we want. It`s a large park and people will actually be KM`s apart so having a central weight station would not work...and keeping fish on a stringer will not work...does too much damage to the fish. The weekend are pretty busy, but if you are early enough there will not be a problem. We hafta make sure any date we pick does not conflict with one of the many large scale celebrations that go on the Island every year...ie: Virgin fest or the chinese dragon boat races. Even though BPS might not donate we may still find some smaller bait an tacles that might donate some prizes... taking advantage of some of the personal relationships that we have built with our fishing equip suppliers, we can always enquire...but keeping it small and friendly is the best way to go for the 1`st one. A small entry fee could be used to provide the BBQ for the day. Along with whatever donated prizes there may be...it means a good time had by all. I like the idea alot, now seeing as I will be at the Island all year fishing, I will already declare myself the winner...but if you all still wanna come play then lets do this!! LOL

Re: Island tournament.

You quoting Joe from family guy r yea? "lets do this" lol. what you've said is pretty much the exact same as what i was going over this weekend. I didnt know things happened like those events on the islands, i've never been to them before, lol. so i'm going to check over that now from the date i had in mind. I'd be willing to be there early, I was thinking having it start at like 9/10ish?? And I was looking, all but Muggs Islands connect. Can you take a car on the ferry? Cause I noticed that there is houses n what not there? :? lol.

I was thinking the same thing as well, just little shop just need like couple things? I was thinking doing bragging rights for most fish, and longest fish, if everyone had a scale which not everyone does, i would've added biggest fish, but not really fair. So I mean if we could find just a couple of shops, that would donate 1 or 2 things, and we mention there shop on the forums, or post something somewhere like a forum that points out all the lil shops in Ontario that are willing to donate to the fun so we all know, were they are n were to go?

As for the BBQ, Depending on what time we start the tournament at, If 9, i'm a catch the 8 ferry, n anytime between 9 n 10 im a catch the one thats hour n 15 mins beforehand at central island? So that could get a BBQ stand, unless someone has a portable charcoal operated BBQ that they could bring with them, since gas, nor propane is allowed on the ferry's. If we have more than 25 people, than we `have`to get a picnic n fire pit permit for $53.50, which would be 2.15$ a person, as an `entry fee`lol. I dont for see us getting more than 25 for the first time out. I`m going to call in and get all the info about that tomorrow. [url=http://www.toronto.ca/parks/island/">http://www.toronto.ca/parks/island/ So I was thinking Sat June 20th. This way anyone who is in school, should be done by than and able to make it. here`s the events schedule

Re: Island tournament.

something to consider is the fact that the different species of fish at the island, pike can get bigger than things like bass so you might want to have a seperate prize for each(it wouldn't be fair if someone caught a record size bass and be smoked by someone with a small pike)

Re: Island tournament.

Yeah, i totally forgot about that. DUH!!! lol. good point thanks. This is all stuff i need to figure out and type up, and have it pretty well organized and good to go.

Re: Island tournament.

your welcome! do you know how many speceis can be caught at the island?

Re: Island tournament.

not a freaking clue, lol. I havn't fished in YEARS lol, so this is all new again to me, so i'm putting this on because i know i have the time to put it on and attempt to figure it out. lol.

Re: Island tournament.

The islands are famous for the pike. And piking is what most anglers go there for.
I would say this should be a pike exclusive tournament, since bass would be out of season during the spring.

And yah, absolutely no stringers/livewell. The fish should be released promptly right after measurements and photo.

Re: Island tournament.

That was going to be my next quest, since i haven't fished in years, and have no clue about anything anymore, lol, to find out what was in season. I don't mind doing that, I have never fished pike ever before, so should be interesting, lol. Here's the link for zone 16, which I believe that Toronto islands is included in... http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR_E001335.pdf

I've gotten most of the details worked out, just waiting for a couple other small details as in this stuff, lol. I'm getting really excited for this. I hope we get a good number of people to show up for it as well.

How does everyone else feel about making it pike only?

Re: Island tournament.

you should make a sing up section so you can be sure that people are going to come

Re: Island tournament.

Checked, and replied, lol. Thanks btw. That was awesome!! :?

Everyone who reads this, please pass OFF along to friends you know who aren't on here. And anyone who works at a bait n tackle shop or outdoors shop, let me know, i got something that we would really appreciate for you to put up. And anyone who lives near like a river that has a park, or trail that has those info things that people are consistently posting flyers and advertisement on. We have a flyer that could be posted. PLEASE AND THANK YOU lol

Re: Island tournament.

I dont want this thread going to dead. lol.

Looking like June 20th everyone. Its a sat, looking at running it from 9am- 4pm, with lunch from 12-1.

Just trying to get the last couple small details worked out, and I will have the full info post, and everything!

Re: Island tournament.

"Looking like June 20th"
Why so far away?

There is a chance to get some fishing in before that long before that.

June 20 is way to far down the road frig and a weekday would be better Saturdays are crazy over there.

Re: Island tournament.

Could do may, But what I was taking in effect, was school, we have members who are either in college/university or high school. And college university, there going to be ending the term in may, n by june 20th, high school should be out. Weekday would be nice yes, but that means a very smaller turnout because than alot more members would have to book it off work, when not a lot will have to book off a saturday. Could do it may, i dont know how well that'll be for a turn out. I'll have to set up a poll than. n if its may sat would prob not be as busy?

Re: Island tournament.

Okay, so May? mid may?? I dont know the good times to go, so this is the info i've been looking for, lol. just means bit warmer clothing, lol?

Re: Island tournament.

they get 40+ inches at the islands.

after ice out, once it gets warm, the spawning starts and they start to come out and play. :? May is generally the best time IMO.
