Opener Update

It sounds like the fishing is still good. I think I'll try to go a couple more times then call it a spring :)

Well the fish are there...hit up a trib today. I think a bunch of fresh runs came in. Lot's of spawning activity. In pairs in every gravel bed. No bites. tried different offerings but they have non of it. I left them alone. Moved a little upwards. Saw a dude "fishing" w/ no bait. just a hook and a few split shots. My friend is in sarcasm mode told the dude "you know a treble would be easier..." Dude's reply was hilarious..."that would be snagging"..."thats' cheating". I told the dude.."oh so what you're doing isn't?" My friend reached for his phone...the dude was..."gone in sixty seconds"...lol. My friend managed 2 males. Managed one female on a daiwa bubblegum shiner...it's starting to become a zoo when we left.

haha those snaggers are all over the place at my spot. The creek is like 3 feet deep with crystal clear water and about 7 feet wide. So if your not fishing pools, you can just walk up and grab the fish. The "anglers" that have a bunch of drop shots lined up, no float and a single size 6 !! hook with their world famous invisible bait are standing in front of the fish making jerking movements. If I see them again today i'll be calling MNR for sure, especially because those guys are taking home like 6 fish because they bring their relatives to increase the limit.

Managed to reach a trib 530am...i was alone with the steels. tons of them before sun up. still moving upstream...some spawning activities still going. I was tempted to start casting but I was really going for rezis so i moved upstream to a pool i just scouted. I'm drifting #0 and #1 spinners for this outing. well...lot's of bows. small ones love the spinners. here's when it got weird. i'm using a #1 silver/pink vibrax (replaced with the siwash that comes in the package) the single hook is bigger than the treble if you notice it. one small trout hit it. about 7 inches. I landed it and noticed it was deep and the hook went out in the eye. I can imagine the pain. before I can unhook it. the fish shook too hard it went straight back to the water with 1 eye dangling in my lure. i can see it swimming in circle. darn. managed to land another 10 incher...about to call it a day (3hrs) one more cast right in front of me...2" shy of 3feet. i don't know how long it took me to land this beast but i was spent after.

That sucks about the eye, but meh Nature has a way of taken care of herself.

Nice one that you landed!!

Was on a local trib today and boy was I surprise to see myself among other young anglers...and when I say young I meant. under 12 years old and they are fun to be with. They respect the water more than some of the more mature anglers I have met in the water. I welcomed them to share the pool where the fish are. They drop their rods everytime I say fish. Caught total 5, landed 3. It wasn't the best outing but the kids love it...felt like a rockstar. I gave them some worms as I'm about to leave and one actually caught a small sucker with it and the joy of this kids shouting he caught a "trout" was priceless. Water was crystal clear but the trout don't mind the young ones.

wow nice looking fish!

Always great to see kids being respectful and enjoying this wonderful hobby. As a young fellow myself (23) I do what I can to help younger anglers so they can keep coming back. I dont mind sharing my "secrets" with them, if they land a fish, great!

Today was the last day of spring steelheading for me. I gotta say, the past year was a great learning experience :)

a few from today

Stay tuned for Fall of 2013

I'm re-spooling for pike opener too. I will give them trouts a break until fall. And then bass....later.

Went over to an east Trib this past friday night, camped out. Woke up a bit late (6am) was in the water by 7am. Tons of fish moving up, we were fishing a pool just behind the pool was abou 8" of water and flat bottoms so you would see most of them moving up. Fish were hitting us as we were standing back from the pool. Alot of smaller ones would creep up on us.

After about 9am there werent many fishin moving by 10am fish were just holding. Fishing the pools were very fruitful. So much that I had to put on my wrist support.
After 1130am untill about 2:00 very few bites we stopped for lunch around 12noon and went back to it around 230. Alot of new fish had moved into the pools to my excitement alot of smaller "green" looking fish.

Hooked into a couple small ones that spit the hook, one that actually went under a branch and snapped the line. Landed 2 small ones and about 5 horses in total.

One thing I can say, every season seems to bring "newbs" out to the rivers. I actually cussed a guy out, I dont think I have ever been that upset. He fought a snagged fish for about 15 minutes, which I have a small issue with but he wasnt keeping fish all day. When he finally lands it and gets his hook out, he litterally tossed it back in the river, immediately started floating so I ran over and grabbed it, revived it and let it loose. The asshole had no clue you had to revive trout before releasing them. All the other fish I saw him catch broke off and he had no stringer around him.. That really "put a knot in my underwear"

Going today to my special spot lol...will report with pictures and fish hopefully

GLOW IN THE DARK BEADS FTW!

beautiful day for weather...but SO much sun, low water and high temperatures made the fish spooked and not willing to bite.

Managed to land this guy, and lost 3 others along with a ton of hardware...oh well, still a great time ALL ALONE hehehe

im also seeing salmon sized trout so can i just use my bass rod and use cranks ? I can seem to get away with anything more than 2 hooks because others start thinking im trying to snag
