he doesn't have enough time to go to court and that stuff and they're obviously going to believe the officer more then him and the officer will obviously lie and do everything possible to make money, its how life works, he may come back after the holidays and start a case but i don't know for sure, time will tell.

It doesn't matter if it was turned on or not, he had it visable and got hit for it. It *TELLS* you coming across the border that they aren't legal here...plain and simple. If he had it in his glove box or trunk or in a bag somewhere he wouldn't have had any issues at all. Same as someone mentioned earlier...if you have a hand gun (legal in a lot of the U.S.) and had it in plain sight here...sure as heck you are getting a ticket and having it confiscated....and would be lucky not to end up in jail.

For all the cop knows...it was turned on and he yanked the power, or...as soon as she is gone...on it goes again.

Just my $.02

it couldn't be turned on before, because it was out of battery and it shows when you turn it on, when the last time it was on, this was a top end device but Ontario cops are stubborn as heck, best not to get into crap with them, most are money hungry, (just my opinion)

If you don't speed, you don't even need to use one of those radar detectors. Think about it - the only reason you want to own one of those is to willfully break the law. In the U.S., radars are set at much lower tolerances than in Ontario. Speeding is defined as anything over the limit, and they can ticket you for that. Most OPP will set their radars at 20 over. If you drive 10-15 over, they're just not interested. I think you can fight tickets in the 8-10kmphr over the limit range and win. Also, I think there's more to this story - there's two sides to every story, and then there's the truth. Circumstance is everything...
agree! always on the limit, maybe 10 over max, i just dont see the reason to speed, 10-15 mins difference in arrival time and lots of gas saved is something i can always live with,

its illegal and he got caught, I don't see what the debate is here.

Totally agree it sucks but as they say, ignorance of the law is no excuse. I think the sir comment might have something to do with it, I laughed when I read that. Personally I've only had good experiences with the O.P.P., Peel however actually pulled me over going under the limit and accused me of going 20 over, I told him"There's no way I was going 70! That's impossible, did you calibrate your unit? That set him off, guy tells me get out of the car, sits me in the back of his cruiser, scares my two kids who think I'm getting in trouble. Once in the car he gets real nasty and says are you accusing me of being a crooked cop? Real winner, typical bully, says it's only 2 points, I'm like that's not the point, I wasn't speeding. Finally lets me off after his powertripping tirade but now we're late for the movie I'm taking the kids to. I wish I got his badge number, the prick. Handgun transportation -trigger locks, ammo locked separately.

can't you file a complaint or a dispute that doesn't seem right

Doesn't seem right? Welcome to life and stay away from Peel

ya, they are bad in peel, i know a women that got stopped for going exactly the limit, not a km over, he took her in the back of the cruiser and started beating her with the baton, she had red marks and bruises, she went to court but i don't know what happened after, my dads friend got an invite to the court of Thunder Bay this spring, he saids he's gonna go.

Ca mon that can't be true. It'd have been all over the news. Seriously, beating a woman in the back of a cruiser for going the speed limit?? besides, did the officer beat her through that bullet proof glass or was he standing outside of the car on the road leaning in and beating her??????

Better search on the legality of the device. Ignorance of the law excuses no one. If its illegal to have one even if its not operational in 9ntario, then he will fight a losing battle.

She better have proof to support that claim otherwise she splitting hairs...

I wrote this long paragraph and then deleted it because this sums it up... You win some, you lose some. It wasn't his day. She could've been having a bad one and "sir" pissed her off enough to make his day a bad one.

ok, i am positive you have never been stopped by a peel officer, i phoned a friend yesterday to find out what happened in court, she won the case and the officer has been fired and they are pressing charges on him, she had proof, from a group of people who had stopped and were videotaping it, i haven't seen the video myself, it has been burnt, so that it doesn't get spread all over the internet, he beat her outside, this was in the evening, it was dark out, it was in missisauga, believe it or not but i personally saw the red marks all over her arms, so i know it is true, peel police are very bad, people say Durham police are bad but I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience with them, but peel on the other hand.......... if you want to know what peel police are like, search it on the internet or ask someone that has been pulled over by them. Back to the topic: my dads friend is gathering information right now, to get ready for court in the spring, he has lots of experience in court and has won most cases, even some that he was guilty in, a good lawyer helps and the device itself will proof that he is innocent.

just a friendly debate here ok?

If a group of people had recorded this, what did they do, arrest everyone who was caught recording and "burn" the vids? C'mon thats not realistic and you know it. Shall I remind you of the recent TTC shooting that was entirely captured on video and published everywhere? Why is this case different?

What youre saying here is that a police officer pulled an innocent woman, who wasnt speeding, made her get out of her car and BEAT HER WITH HIS BATON, right? Do you know how outrageous this story is?

There is no way that this would have happened "under the radar", pun intended.
