Pike season over....

Hello all, I'm a newbie here, just a couple of questions to clarify the pike season, according to the regulations, Pike season is over on March 31st and will be reopened til mid May... if bass is also closed then what am I going to fish? (I'm not a big fan of crappies, sunfish etc). I've read somewhere that you can easily be fined even if you "appear" to be fishing for not allowed species. can somebody plz clarify this?
BTW, I'm in south Mississauga, around the limit with Oakville if somebody wants to give me a shout when going out.
On the other hand: went to Jack darling park today,made some casting but it was so windy, a lot of waves and it was so cold that I couldn't feel my hands at some point :-| , so decided to pull out....stayed there no more than 30 min....maybe tomorrow will be better.

Hey there...Trout opens 4 sat in april, which is only a couple weeks before pike reopens apparently. Best thing to do is look at Zone 16, and I think it's Zone 20 for the peirs and Lake O. See what they show is open. If you are specifically targetting out of season fish, yes you can be fined and maybe lose your equipment. But fish will bite and eat whatever and whenever they want to. So you could be fishing for Pike now, and get Bass, but you cant control that. So its be sure you know what you want to aim for, make sure it open and target that. Best thing to do as well, pinch your barb down on your hook, or buy barbless hooks.

If pike and bass are over, I'd either wait it out or find something to target that has a different approach, like walleye (not sure if there are any in your area, or if its open/closed).

It's up to the CO's to make a call if your targetting OOS fish. They might watch you before approaching you, in order to make that call. If you catch 3-4 pike, it's your responsibility to move from the area.

Just respect the resource, respect the law and move forward. Even if that means you have to wait a few weeks.

If you do choose to target a different species, carry the regs on you so you can answer your own questions should they arise.

there are open seasons here and there for steelhead. Not as many fish as several weeks ago though. other than that you could always try your luck at pier fishing

You have a car and ready to hit the road, if so then we can all help. If not, then you must count on locals to help and you must make sure you are in season.

Well I got my first bite from a Toronto Harbour Pike today. I've been fishing the Islandsand Spadina Quay to Coronation Park all month (before the "problem" started), but have had no luck. Today in Coronation Park I got my first Pike. It bit through my fluorocarbon, but it was still an exciting moment for a novice fisherman.

I got it on an x-rap, twitching it in, slow and deep.

There are 2 days left, and by god I'm going to land one. Good fishing to everyone. I'll be out all day Friday and Saturday.

Also you could try rivers for suckers, they aren't half bad to fish for. I'd rather suckers than sunfish.

If you are in south Mississauga I would suggest trying the Credit River or Bronte Creek. Rainbow Trout is open right now south of Hwy 403 down to Lake Ontario on the Credit. Bronte Creek is open south of Hwy 2 to Lake Ontario. Hope this helps. Goodluck!

My friends and I do that for steelhead. The MNR actually let us off since we didn't keep anything.

Really eh?? I think I know were I need to head out to tomorrow to the credit and aim for some rainbows. Pretty much bronte peir is your only option right for now for Bronte creek...but at least non of the boats are int he water but neither are the docks as well, cause Hwy 2 to Lake O is a very small distance haha.
