can i use a centre pin on a spinning rod :?: i found a guy selling a trotting reel whatever that is for like 75 bucks could i use that with my shimano convergence 10ft rod

I see no reason you couldn't, only disadvantage I can see is less forgiveness because I assume it's a heavier rod, and it may be harder to load with I assume a higher lure weight recommendation.

Make sure the reel fits on the seat! I would think most would, but just in case.
yup i checked its one of those el-cheapo ukraine reels

Make sure it isn't a mooching reel as they won't work as a centre pin reel. There are a couple of cheap pins listed at www.floatfishing.net in the centre pin section of the classifieds.

A mooching reel is a down rigging reel with the same design of a fly reel but the size of a pin

CT just save up your cash, get a 170+ dollar pin, save up more, then buy a float rod. Thats what i did

You can buy a rapala r-type float reel for $120 at Lebaron, and for the money it's a fantastic reel. I would go that route over a no name ebay job any day of the week. You can absolutely use your 10 foot rod. I use a 10'6" rod all the time on smaller tributaries. The 13's are nice when the way is clear, but when brush and shrubs are in the way, I really appreciate the shorter rod! The reel seat placement shouldn't be an issue, you'll get used to it! Good luck!

I have a 10' rod I used to use to bottom bounce I toss my pin on it from time to time when im fishing smaller tribs and don't have as much casting room. It works fine for me

I have a 9' 5wt stcroix I re-tied as a spinning rod that I use my pin on for small tribs

dude just get a second hand okuma aventa, thyre like 60 bucks and will do you well. 10ft is fine for a center pin, some people fish 8-9 foot rods for ocean run steelhead. get one and youll never look back
