It really is more about the Winds (thus the water temp and currents) isnt it?

Thanks for the good news.

I know the Rain plays a huge role, but we are talking in the 20+ mm range. (Not this little 1-2mm stuff)

ps: How the heck to you get the Avatar to be "Media"?
It has the Size limits for the Pics, so I can't seem to figure out how to do what you have done.

After reading MikeyMikey's rant about nets, I went to Canadian Tire and bought an extendable net with a handle of 10 feet for 20 bucks (on sale).

Awesome, hope you'll catch more fish now!!

Why bother bring your own lures? I BET you everybody else have tackle box full of lures to share with you.
Heck, why bring a rod? jc53 always brings two.

I don't know about most guys, but I'd be devastated to look over my shoulders to see my net missing . This one guy in Scarborough tried to steal my backpack one time, but then saw me staring at him from the yacht club bridge. He walked away as if he wasn't going to do it.

yesterday was fishing around 2:30 am, only one guy catch a 15 pound chinook, me no even single bite, I gave my net to him and he give me the salmon, I will post the pic later

Hello everyone, I am one of those pier noobs, but on the positive side I do carry my own net! I was out last night casting for a few hours in the st chatherins area but had no luck. I was wondering if the hotter days have an effect on the staging. I apologise for the noob questions but am really trying to learn as much as possible about getting salmon from the piers so if you can help me with good times to head out, like outside temps, water temp or just get out and cast. When should I call it quites from the piers? Is November to late or should I be going to the rivers by then. Thank you and if I get any I will post some pics.

In "General" the water temps and the Weather, play the most significant role.

HOWEVER... lol

This year the First Run of Salmon in the EAST TRIBS was EARLY (Aug 10)

Typically, it moves EAST to WEST and then down to NIAGARA (Whirlpool, Glen and Port D)

You are NOT TOO EARLY, the "Timing" is just about there.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL NOV or you will MISS the MAIN RUNS there.

HONESTLY, on any given day now (Sun or Rain - Hot or Cold) The Salmon and beautiful BROWNS down there will start to run.

My advice, is too PHYSICALLY CHECK on a DAILY BASIS if possible.

Good to have some "Spotters" (Live in the Area) to give you updates.

Best of Luck!

St. Cath's has some AMAZING FISHING!

What would be the right setup to fish the "Browns" off a pier?

Pretty well the same as the Salmon or Chrome.
* Can be "lighter" if you choose.

The Browns hit the Cleo's, The J-13, and of course will take some ROE or SKEIN.

I find I typically do better with them drifting under a float about 10-15 ft down.

However, They do hang on the bottom as well.

Thank you for the advice, I plan on getting out as much as possible but if I miss the salmon when can I expect the browns and steelies to come in? I am not going to lie I have a big skunked badge going on for the last month, every fish I target seems to smell me coming and I need to get the stink gone!!!
