Productivity or solitude

Solitude is the name og the game for me...I can count the number of times that I fished a pool with more than 3 guys on my hands...that includes the whirlpool :)

I definitely prefer to walk away from the crowds.

Its funny how people say this creek/river is so packed! Its a ZOO! MADNESS! Yet if you walk 10 minutes away from the access point the numbers drop drastically, 15-20 minutes and you are usually alone.

Yesterday was a perfect example of this. The area near the parking lot had a lot of people fishing the typical spots (which were producing). I didn't want to fish with 10 other people in a 20 foot strech of water so I hiked up 10-15 minutes and couldn't see a soul in ether direction... well other then the two little browns nippin at each other and showing off their beautiful colours to me.

Anyone who has ever fished with me knows that relaxation plays no part in a day of fishing for me lol. Even if im in a place with solitude ill be drifting non-stop for hours on end like a crackhead looking for his next fix haha.

If I wanted to rub shoulders with other men I'd hit the Pride Parade. (edit: I don't hit the pride parade... ever. But it's cool if anyone else does).

I've never been to the pride parade...but having been to Petro Park on a Saturday morning after a good rain in September...

Solitude or not, I'm heavily addicted to river fishing!

Even though i love big numbers, to me seeing that float bury under the surface at least once is good enough. I'm not saying I don't enjoy my surroundings and appreciate the tranquility And peaceful environments mother nature throws our way generously, but I have to see a current, a back eddy, fast run or a pool. so wether it be shoulder fishing with the goons and the drifters, the weekend warriors and old school legends, the white bucketers and the travelers,

Or fishing next to a blue heron, a frog and old cedar tree.

I GOTTA be on the river. It's my home and I don't care whom I'm sharing it with.

Its all about solitude, I can't enjoy catching fish anymore if I am crammed in there between guys.

i like the competition of drifting in crowds, also when a run is occupied by adept steelheaders the coordination and synchronization when everyone gets there drifts going in cadence.....a thing of beauty!. my home trib is solitude fishing kilometres of farmfeild instead of battling the crowds you are battling overhanging trees and logjams.

Agreed.

As long as everyone's on the same page with casting and retrieving, and removing their lines when someone is fighting a fish it can work out quite well.

The only thing I hate is when people are casting over your lines or hero drifting from the top of the run to the tail out of the pool.

How do you fish pools like we were fishing last weekend without casting over lines? We were all casting over eachothers lines all day long lol

It's different when you know the people lol. If it's buddies I'm fishing with I'll cast over without hesitation

It wasn't tooo bad

For me it's the solitude! I love getting out there all by my onesis with nobody else around. Though I will say that today was exciting to see someone hook up with a nice sized fish and get walked over 100 feet down the river only to loose it.

with big water it wasn't as bad. picture this and fishin in an east trib  .. lets do it again boys this time during the week LOL!

Any easily accessible river/stream will get hit hard. Most will congregate at the easiest and most productive holes. Some rivers/streams here in AK get hit HARD when the salmon run. I fish amongst them and fill my freezer. Its a different type of fishing but still fun in another aspect. When the salmon are done and spawing it is void of people. I prefer solitude of course and I mainly get that fishing for trout/steelhead/grayling/dollies etc. Salmon on the other hand no. While floating popularrivers during salmon season you see A LOT of raft/drift boat traffic but at least you can move to another gravel bar or island.

King salmon fishing at an easily accessable river. You can tell this is a productive hole.

Steelhead fishing in solitude in a rain forest in south east Alaska.

One of the take outs on the Kenai river in June. The sockeyes are in, and so is everyone trying fill the freezer.
