Fall is a good time to go for bass hen everyone else is putting their rods away and waiting for the ice to form

I agree with Grubman, but I have used the ones with a rattle in clear water with some success. I suppose the fish were aggressive and that's why it worked then.

I've done the same to aggrevate them into striking but has not worked for me so far. It's always worth a shot when nothing is biting, what do you have to lose? Nothing.

I think we all fish the same way:
First try to appeal to the fish's hunger by using a natural looking lure or live bait.
Second fishing slower by present the fish with a easy meal by dropping it as close as possible to their strike zone.
Third try to invade the fish's territory make them strike out of aggression.
Forth try to get the fish to react instinctively, they are used to chasing down their food.
Fifth irritate the hell out of them with a noisy lure.

I think those are the main methods in no particular order. If all these fail then get the dynamite out......lol.
