I was out on a west trib yesterday and WOW was it slow. On the other hand some of my co-workers were smashing them in a east river, Why is the west run always later then the east? They should be coming up in numbers with todays rain.

yea the west gets about a week or two after the east usually. you will get the occasional fish, but the big runs are always later in the west

yeah. Hey Shmogley, please advise me when u know that the run is on in the West trib. dont want to go and waste time. in the mean while, i would be exploring the east and upper west.

I was in the west a week ago or so, and not one fish or fisherman to be found. Perhaps a later run this year.

I have to agree, been out multiple times in the west, and it is really slow. Hopefully this last rain will bring em' in.

Off of a West pier on Sunday night me and 2 others hooked and landed almost a dozen in 4 hours. They are there and biting just need to switch up what you are tossing to them and you will be rewarded when you find out what they are wanting

the run on one of the west trib was late last year as well. like the last week of Sept.
have to disagree there bud, i was catching both salmon and steelhead a lot earlier last year. seems like this year is about 3 weeks or so behind last year for me personally
i mean its already almost closed season for a lot of spots and they havent even seen major runs yet. just the precursors

I agree that this year is much later than last. Even the charter boats were saying that all summer long the fish were 2 or 3 weeks behind normal rotation. Just makes this year more interesting because we will be getting salmon, steel and brown all around the same time.

correction. actually the other West pier was late not the one u were fishing. sorry.

Just asking here.

Anyone fish the large west trib find the fish are less fresh, more boots, less fight time, alot more spooked?

The spooked part I attribute to the additional 893275890 fisher men/women since its inner city fishing.

Dont get me wrong there is chrome to be had in the west, but not very many in comparsion to the east.

They're a bit more spread out. Out east it's like snagging fish in a barrel haha.

If they run later then they will naturally be darker.
II disagree, like I said the fish are 2 to three weeks behind in the rotation which means that their development in change from Lake to river are behind as well. If the fish are at the point of maturity to need to run the river they would already be running the rivers. The water levels are definitely high enough they just haven't been ready. If they run too early before they are fully developed then they will wear themselves out before they can spawn. If they were kept out of the rivers due to low and warm water then yes they would be a lot darker.

Not much luck for me again except this one [sharedmedia=core:attachments:14431] lol. Looking forward to catching the little one again a couple years down the road.

I dont mean this in a rude way, more or less to help for in future cases.

If you are going to target any species, there is a certain amount of research that should go into the conservation of the species as a whole. I know all too well how difficult some of these fish can be to handle (I still cannot tail a fish without a glove) but in the picture you posted, I am sure that specific fish will die based on how it was handled for your picture

Becareful out there guys- im only offering this as help, not calling anyone out or flamming them.

Thanks for the tip iJay. In no way did I intend to hurt it just for a picture. I'll do some knowledge searching for the next time out. I'm just a fisherman who loves to fish and keeps our future conservation in mind.
