for me, i can't have 100% new gear. for example i can't pair a new rod and reel together, has to be new rod, old reel or new reel old rod. can't have 2 pieces of equipment together that have never caught fish.... i know, im wierd

Haha awesome topic!

I always feel that glass on the lake is a good omen. I know a lot of people like a chop but I get really excited when I see a calm sheet of blue. I also live by a saying my grandmother taught me: "red sky at night, sailor's delight/ red sky at morning, sailors take warning"...but i don't know if that' counts as a real superstition because it is so dang accurate lol.

My buddy never keeps the first fish he catches out of superstition. I'm not a fan of keeping the first one either...but mostly because I don't want to feel like i should go in early because my lunch is going bad haha. My old football and hockey superstitions were so strange I won't even repeat them lol...

You never bring bananas on any fishing outing. Whether it be ocean fishing ( they have no banana signs on the guide boats), river fishing or lake fishing. No bueno. You bring a banana get ready to blame your bad fishing day on it.

noo way! any idea what the origin of/rationale for that is...or is it just something everyone does??

lol that's awesome. I now have a reason not to let anyone wearing something from Banana Republic on board haha. No way I'm giving up fruit of the loom though lol.

Interesting. I never take bananas when I go fishing, but no superstition. I just don't like them.
Have been known to wear Fruit of the Loom though, and sometimes Hanes

Alfie.

Definitely have a few "fishing only" shirts in my closet. You won't find me on a river in anything but the 3 I have :p

I've heard of the bananas before... I'm gonna start bringing one along with me on my trips so I have something to blame skunks on  Was it the pressure change? Temperature change? Weekend pressure? Naw dude, the banana, simple :D

I only tie odd numbers of eggs in roe bags, guess that would be my superstition. That and on the way nobodies to say "can't wait to get my first fish" JYNX!

lol i know about the banana thing and brought one with me last outing anyways. Naturally I got skunked.

Lol. Bananas.

"You know your not catching any fish when you start talking about the weather."

Thats a saying my buddies and I have said before. On nice days out when no one is hooking up you will always hear the phrase...."Such a nice day out!"

Or if you see a post or text from a buddy that lets you know he was skunked....you tell him... "At least it was such a nice day out." lol I always laught at it.

that banana thing is funny. i dont take them because i like them "medium well" and usually a soft banana in a backpack=smashnana or at very least blacknana. i have a thing were if you find a bait on the river like a fly or a rubber egg or pinky, you have to fish it right away. quite a few fish have been caught this way and i have converted a few buddies. you have to use it immediately tho. put it in a pocket and the magic vanishes..........

Based on recent 1st hand experience, I now have a 'No Fishing under or within 100 feet of bridges and overpasses.'

Not joking here.

Not just Burnhamthorpe.

I usually fish under or near bridges over eastern tribs for Hwy 2/Kingston Road and 401.

I will make sure I am not directly underneath any of them from now on if they are of any significant heights.

None...
bananas have never proven deleterious either...
