Hi everyone, firstly I would like to introduce myself, my name is Zuhair and I live in York. I have been aiming to catch a bass for almost 2 years now. After days and days of research and learning about their behaviour and habitat, this summer I finally pulled my first one out! It was at Topham Pond on jane and eglinton. The park workers said it was restocked with some pike and bass this year 8) . So far, I caught and have seen people catch brown bullheads, crappies, bass, pike and carp.

In mid-july I reached the pond at 10am and had no luck until roughly noon time. I was at the northwest portion of the pond flipping a 3 inch black tube jig. It was time to take a break, so I just flipped the jig about one meter away from shore and just left it there. I was about to take a drink when I realised that the line was moving away. At first, I thought it was it was just wind and water current that is moving the line away but surely, after the line moved 3 feet away in a matter of few seconds I knew I had a fish on. I set the hook and pulled out a nice 11 inch largie :D . It made my day, even though it was a small bass. The feeling of catching a bass for the first time is really something else. Sadly, the bass died shortly after I took the hook out because it swallowed it.

Decent bass for that small pond...

Used the black tube jig texas style!

I also caught a lot of crappie there. There is a certain location where the crappie hang around. Its not too far away from where I caught the bass. Just as you walk along the north walkway heading west of the pond, at midway there is a small pathway that takes you to a small fishable opening (not too many people know about this spot). Casting a very small yellow or white coloured rubber jig with a small float will give you a high chance of success for the crappie there. Worms also work great, but the brown bullheads always steal it. The biggest crappie I caught there was about 7-8 inches.

As for the carp, the best location is southwest of the pond. Used a piece of bread and casted without a float, caught two 3 pound carp 2 weeks ago. I didn’t catch a pike yet, however I know that there is a 40 inch pike swimming around in that pond. Get some minnows, and fish from the bridge(mid way along the south walkway) of the pond to get some success with pike.

If you decide to fish there, I wish you good luck!

Dude, awesome report! I live withing a 25 minute walk and last year I would be there constantly, this year in early the crappie fishing slowed down a lot and I was too discouraged to return. Never had luck there for carp. I did used to catch 3 bass a day on the southern side on white grubs. By southwest of the pond, do you mean by the weeping willow? Also I don't see what the big hype about the bridge is, I constantly see fishermen there but I've had no luck and I would be pulling out fish from different spots. I'm going to try this last week of vacation. I too have used eglinton flats for my first report to gain access to the gta reports section 8)

wow guys ive been there a few times and gotten skunked every time. i fish the southern shore. ive seen bass caught, but no luck for me 8) any tips? last free weekend before school so let me know guys :D

lol sorry i failed i meant the southern shore id like to go for bass crappie and pike 8)

Hello guys,

I think the southern shore is the best for pike. I am not too sure about bass, but an old guy who has been fishing there for more than 10 years said that there is a nice weed bed at the center of the pond and said all the pike and bass are hiding there. Try to cast as far to the middle as possible early morning or late evening and hopefully a hungry bass will go for it. I have mainly focused on catching bass there this summer(I only caught one), probably going to go for pike next spring. Give a try with small tube jigs. Try the white colour for a bit, and try the black and see what happens. I used the directions in accordance to the map I posted, so the southwestern would be the bottom left of the pond.

White has been the only colour I had any luck on, black and yellow seem to repel the fish lol. Hopefully I can walk there tomorrow and give it a try, weather permitting. I'll post pictures if I catch anything,

From past experience (though I am not the most experienced) I have noticed that most of the big bass go for black colour and most of the small bass go for the white colour. Defenitely let us know how it goes and good luck!

The weather was carp so I didn't bother trying. This week week looks good though.

Any luck at Topham? I am planning to go grenadier pond this saturday and hopefully catch something worth posting on the forum

Don't bother with grenadier, from my experience last year the shoreline was uncastable since it was full of algae and weeds. The only decent spot was off the docks, but it's always packed with people and all you can really catch are sunfish. Try the centennial park pond, I've seen pike and bass caught there in the morning, plus my dad caught a decent sized carp and lost a huge one at two different days. Weekdays it is practically empty.

I went to grenadier earlier on this summer and caught 2 largies just about a pound each. I went there on the family fishing day and they caught atleast a 6 pound bass using the electro boat. I have also seen people catch 2-3 pound bass in that very pond by casting a 6 inch black powerworm. I think the water clarity fluctuates, the last time I went the water was crystal clear  Majority of the regular fisher men that I have spoken to said they caught pike mainly at this time of the year.
