Hi all,

I am newcomer to the forum. This weekend (APR6) a buddy and I decided to check out the Island for the first time after hearing good things.

We are after pike and while cruising the canals a bit we spotted a baby northern! It was in the canals around algonquin. Later, we spotted some good sized carps in the channels around center island.

After getting a good lay of the land, I am still undecided where the best spot is to find pikes when it warms up. I like the little nooks around algonquin but I'm not sure if that's where I'll find them.

Scoped out the lagoons at the south of the Island by Long Pond and Gibraltar Lighthouse - it looks good. Any suggestions/hints for pike once we get some heat?

Pike season closed March 31st. Opens again mid-May (2nd saturday I think?). Once the season re-opens try the main channel west of the Grandstand, assuming you are shore fishing, thats the area most of the large Pike are caught.

If you are in a boat try a little further west in Blockhouse bay at the junction between Long pond and Hanlans

Thanks Mike. Yes, this year pike opens up May 12th.. Looking forward to it! Just scouting right now in the dinghy - gives a reason to cruise around and explore the island.. Will be fishing from the boat once the season opens up.

I agree the west channel looked pretty good to me!

I saw 2 guys fly fishing (for carp or something I gather) from a dingy on Friday, was that you?

I was Carp fishing on one of the canals on Centre island Friday morning, I don't usually see any boat traffic on that stretch. I think Mike and Elliott were around the grandstand area as well at some point in the afternoon. Last month I saw early season Pike being taken on the harbour side of the islands as there were no baitfish in the canals, but I saw a large group of young perch in the shallows last weekend.

Right on.. Next time I'll stop by and say hi!
