Just thought Id share my setup for some unconventional salmon bites, today being its first field test. This started out as a verticle jigging setup for laketrout but I thought I could try it out on some salmon. My thinking is that the shorter rod allows for casting under logjams, working tighter areas and then it still has the muscle to pull fish out.

Raven sst
12lb trilene xt
10 rio flouroflex tippet
shimano sellus 7'1 medium worm & jig
variety of vibrax spinners ranging from size 3-5 and 1/3 ounce cleos (all hooks swapped to siwash)

saw a kid with a zebco rod pull in a chinook yesterday evening out here. was quite amusing in a similar fashion ;)

Saw a grown ass man pull in a Chinook on a Shakespeare Kids edition with the original crap line that comes with it....I was like DAMN I must suck at fishing

Lol

Saw a lady with a Dora The Explorer rod + reel combo you can get from walmart for under $20 at the pier trying her luck at salmon fishing. I'm pretty sure the fish would be longer than the rod

even I'm thinking of using a smaller rod, its to hard getting around an east creek with a 10ft rod lol

Man I have all this fancy equipment and I don't get a thing. Maybe if I buy a Spongebob rod I'll have much better luck :p
