im heading to bps tomorrow for some waders. $300 is my limit.

i was leaning toward the simms headwaters or freestone
i was also interested in some whiteriver flyp shop waders. they were 150 and had the features of more expensive waders(handwarmers and many pockets)

any suggestions??

i was going to get some waders from BPS too, but decided to do an online order from ORVIS

Their waders are highly praised and on sale as well!

I got the tailwater XT's in bootfoot for 200. wadings boots connected to waders.
They also have stocking foot for 200...but my limit didn't allow for boots.

I'm saving up for a pin. hopefully i come across a nice used islander in my range.

If you're going to stick with BPS, I guess Simms would be the best route. Freestone that is.

great minds think alike!!!

just got back now from bps with simms freestone waders and read ur comment.(weird yo:p)
planning on getting the boots from gagnon on tuesday(freestone boots)

you should get a raven matrix pin. nice one to get started off on. the 4.3inch is 200 at bps(without tax) and the 5 inch is 240. all the pins are basically the same so cheaper is good. after a year or two of use get an sst. best bang for the buck on the market,

I will definitely consider the raven. :D
Just waiting for the waders to get here....test for leaks/look for holes, then I'm off to a local creek to try them out
Pin will come shortly

centre pin reel, also called a float reel.

its like a very large fly reel(mounted in the middle of the rod like a spinning reel) that has a single berring in the middle. it spins free both ways so you put your float in the river and it pulls line out by itself. very easy to mend a long float.

heres a link to a vid of one:

update on my waders.
ORVIS decided to email me so many days after the order stating that they were out of stock.

looks like I'll be heading up to BPS again to pick up some frestones.

durham-fisher, do you remember if they have a lot of sizes left?

You did snag the last medium!!!
They literally had nothing that fit me.

In a desperate state, I went and grabbed a pair of stocking foot white river breathables (BPS brand) with some boots (also the same brand) and felt very disappointed after I got home. I will return them... probably tomorrow.

Went on ebay and picked up a set of Simms Freestones for a great price instead. :)

haha sorry bout cleanin em out:p

nice move tho. i went to gagnon and got a pair of freestone boots aswell. 110 bucks. awesome boots for the price and they match:p

oh and dont lose ur wading belt, IT SUCKS.....

Got the waders yesterday and man.... they are so nice.
big difference compared to others i've tried on. I'm very happy with the purchase

$110 for the freestone boots huh?
I think I will go this route as well. Seems like I'm just copying you haha

frozenfire what was wrong with white river?
i almost got them last year.

The sizes for the BPS brand were really awkward. I tried every size they carried and i was in between a MS and S. (For me, MS was too big and S was way too tight). The one I got that day was MS and it was really loose. Read reviews that if waders are too baggy, they will rub in between the legs and weaken the seam, eventually leading to a leak. The breathable material was really thin and it just didn't feel like it would last me too long before something wrong would happen. Price of the BPS waders were 139.99 and the white river matching boots were 99.99. Together, after taxes and all, it came out to be about $270. Too much IMO... might as well spend a few more bucks and get the best brand.

The Simms I picked up were medium size and the inseam and chest measurements fit me great! Not baggy at all! With two pairs of socks and layers of pants, the waders should fit nicely. The material is a lot more durable and thicker. Definitely looks like they will last a lot longer than any other waders I've seen. Plus, each set of Simms waders are water tested before being sent out... can't say the same for BPS. Even the BPS employees told me to keep my receipt, because I will have a 1 year warranty... and I'll probably need to use it!

The Simms Freestone stockingfoots I picked up were 199 USD, after exchange came out to be about 220 or so. Free shipping. Sweet present from my GF :). I could be wrong, but I think BPS charges 250 for the Simms freestone before tax.
After I pick up some boots, I will be hitting the rivers as much as I can.

Efka, what waders do you use?

i still use hip waders from bass pro. had to patch one seem after i set the hook in it this year.
but so fat been pretty good, never had leaks or difficulty crossing the river.
thats why chest waders are nor necessary for me, and when i saw white river waist waders i was leaning towards them since not too many companies make waist waders.

you just gotta be really sure when u purchase waders. dont get crap ones and ones that dont fit you cause you will just have so many problems and the whole point of waders is to make fishing easier:p
