ok so aparently i found what was once a cold water stream that isint to far away , when i say what was once, well they bulldozed a part of it for new housing and now the water has a greyish ting to it almost like clay dust in most of it. it still has lots of clearer parts with riffles and some current but larger parts of it are deeper slow moving waters with the cloudiness, this stream was stocked with brown trout 3 years ago as far as i know and wundering if the fish would stay in the clearer parts of the system or would they die/leave because of the ppm of the substance...

hard to analyse via post but... shot in the dark...

Tough to say.

Some fish are very adaptable ... and can survive difficult situations.
Unfortunately ... if it stays that way long, the whole food chain either changes or suffers.

Only real answer is to get out (SEVERAL TIMES) and try it out.
Hopefully they are still there and making by.

GOOD LUCK! (Please let us know)

so i talked to some locals they said they used to fish it before the construction and said there was allot of them small 12" or smaller but they said they were really tough to fish out since they booked it as soon as they saw a glimpse of you so they kinda gave up on it..... they also said once the trout got bigger they would run in the road ditches when the waters high in the spring time towards the bigger rivers around... from what they remember the streams where alot livelier and since the construction leaked a lot of silt into the water and that the trout either got trapped in the bigger section of clearer water or they died/changed locations... one guy said he saw a few scram away when he was hunting for partridge but not sure if they were creek chub or trout.... anyways i walked alot of the stream most of it looks pretty dead the clearer part looks like it has potential so im gonna go explore it this week end let you know if i come across anything interesting... ( The mnr set up a few dams and y's to bypass the part of the stream with clear water)

oh and yeh the mnr setup and dam to keep the road ditch and rain water run off from going into the what used to be cold water fish spawning habitat (swampy wetlands) (the water leading to the dam is all greyish...) juss wondering could brown trout live year long in that habitat or do they need consistent water flow?.... asking in point of view of some of the trout being trapped in the wetlands/small lake when they built the dam.... the water backed up and made a small lake... lake has lots of dead trees in it and weeds i haven't gone canoeing in it yet don't feel like dragging it through the woods...

any info would be great trying to look it up on internet but hard to compare with my special situation,,,,

the fact that they had to pick the one place in the entire city or surroundings with a cold water stream system to build there stupid new houses that aren't even that nice just pisses me right off lol

one positive factor out of this whole thing is that brown trout have the highest tolerances of salmonids to both warm and contaminated water, there may be hope. i know the feeling of being pissed about housing developments they have no respect for riperian areas 66 ft setback from waterbodies is ok for lakes but small streams and creeks are much more fragile. there is a development going in on my home trib and is already seriously degrading the watershed after only one phase.

well apparently the mnr did get involved because they gave conditions to the construction companies about cutting down trees and shrubbery around the creek and linking the rainwater runoffs and such to the stream without treatment modules or what ever there called but they completely ignored the conditions! reason for the mnr setting up the dams and y's to divert the contaminated water... and well all they could do was give them a 60 000$ dollar fine witch the companies gladly payed off...

anywayse i cant wait to go explore that stream this week end that's all i can think of... hopefuly ill catch something hehe ill be happy with anything well juss beeing in the woods alone( dont know anyone els who likes to be in the wilderness to fish tactically, well around here anywayse) with some time to myself is always nice but anyone have some tips on fishing small streams for small trout in fall?

BAIT? presentation? gear? aproching target fishing spot... clothes...

any info will help thx

It's a shame isnt it?

Unfortunately, in today Economic times ... things like the Kyoto Protocal are all being recinded or not recognized do to the BUSINESS PRESSURE.
Always about MONEY!

Dont get me wrong, I am a realist and nothing is going to stop: Progress, Growth ... there isnt any magic pill.
We've proven thoughout history that our temporary (Todays needs) will outway any and most long term thinking and planning.

Still a lot of good thought and things ... but more not so.

Shame
