What gear bag do you use?

Amundson makes a decent sling pack for $40. You don't need much to catch steelhead. I carry a small hook/swivel/jig box, a small box with split shot, a small Tupperware with a few extra floats, 2 spools of leader material, a small bead box, some pink worms, a small container of jennson eggs, a small fly box and that's pretty much it other than a hand towel. Roe containers go in my jacket pocket, and my hat and mitts go in the other jacket pocket if I'm not wearing them. If I need to carry water cause I'm fishig a big system, I have a water bottle holster that slips on my wading belt along with my worm container. Couple granola bars in my bag or pockets, and i can go all day. I'll be damned if I'm carrying a backpack with me. The older I get, the less I'm carrying! I only fish hardware in estuary water, so that stays in the truck!

I'm certainly no expert in this area, but I find a regular knapsack the best. I have a MEC one with just a main compart and a top pocket---not the myriad of pockets for stff to get lost in. I just put it on the riverbank while fishing. I guess it depends a lot on the type of fishing one does. I see a lot of 'specialists'(Floaters or bottom bouncers) out there who have made thinks really slick with a vest or hip pouch. OTOH, I tend to try different methods (roe, lures etc) and I don't want to re-organize everything at the start of every outing.

I got a nice swiss army backpack that swings around real easy to the chest for access and has lots of little side pockets etc.never let me down. cost me a fraction of what some branded fishing straps will. point being don't always looks in the fishing section for a good bag!
but plenty of people have said likewise already but that's my 2 cents thrown in

and style goes a long way ;)

I would recommend getting a sling for sure, one of the most important features of a sling is if it has cup holders IMO. That patagonia one you posted looks like a good option. I use a backpack when i'm bringing food/drinks with me and I know i'm only going to get back to the car at the end of the day. If my sling had cup holders I could put a drink or two in there and some sandwiches in my jacket but since it doesn't I often have to take the backpack. The backpack would be fine if I didn't strap a magnetic landing net to my back, but with the net its a huge pain to lug around.

I took my 5 year old son's back pack. it's got a batman sign on it and everything.

I've literally carried that on my back for hours on end and it's comfortable so eh.. no need for anything else.

When i can, i do set it on the bank though when i'm settled in a spot for a while.

I ended up buying simms headwater pro waist pack (also slings).............is it too big? im struggling to decide if i should exchange it. Too awkward to wear it in the front but my a$$ supports it perfectly.

I run a similar pack, when moving spot to spot I wear it like that. But when I'm fishing I turn it 90degrees so it sits sideways, easier access to all the things you need.

I either use a vest or a dakine backpack which is cheaper than most fishing packs and can hold quite a bit

There are some very "economical alternatives" (That don't compromise) available.

You can purchase Video/Camera bags at THRIFT STORES for $3-10.

There are some very HIGH END QUALITY bags out there.

Perfect size, waterproof, compartments.

You'd be surprised!
