8mm-10mm. Some guys run those huge 14mm too. I've never seen a fish caught with them so far lol
I have been using it for a long time now....mixing up a brew with some vaseline on the stove .This consistency allows one to "smear it "on various objects (especially pom poms )and not have it disperse as quickly as straight anise, once it's been drifted a number of times.I think you may be right about those pom-poms. I was thinking of threading 1 on my line with a needle. It depends on how much trouble I want to take. I mentioned cod liver oil because it would seem fairly close to salmon roe oil and I did catch a small bow last winter on a roe bag that I put a capsule in, then pin-pricked it. Salmon oil only seems to be readily available in capsules. But anise?? Anise!! I thought that was a bit strange. I mean, it’s not even close to fish oil. But then I Googled it and it seems to be a common scent to add. Which makes me wonder who the heck thought of using that first, and why??
where do you buy the different sizes, fishing store or craft store?

That's a great idea, what's the ratio of anise to vaseline? and how long do you heat it?I have been using it for a long time now....mixing up a brew with some vaseline on the stove .This consistency allows one to "smear it "on various objects (especially pom poms )and not have it disperse as quickly as straight anise, once it's been drifted a number of times.
Vaseline and anise, eh?! Gotta be careful how you say that combo---watch the pronunciation!..
