the first one i can remember i was 13 on a trip to algonquin park don't know the lake i grabbed my dads spinning rod with a jitterbug on it no one had caught a thing all day second cast 3 lb lmb

Maybe 7-8 years old from an old abandoned bridge around Milton (when there was no expansion at ALL) with a worm caught me an ugly slimy catfish.... Always watched my dad catch bass but that was the first time I caught something on my own... I still remember how much pressure I was under from maybe the 2 pounder

I was as young as possible. 3 or 4? Lucky enough to have the privilege to grow up at a cottage smashing sunfish off the dock, good times

5 years old. Can't remember exactly what fish it was but either Sunfish, Bluegill or Perch. Sitting on the dock of a Rice Lake resort dropping my line 5 feet in front of me with a bobber and a worm. Pulling up Panfish every 5 minutes.

I'll add some pics in a bit.

I was about 5 years old probably and I caught a little SMB on a 5'6" shimano rod with a Zebco Z33 spincast reel. (That reel is rock solid. Still have it kicking around to this day. Works/looks like brand new)

Piece of corn on a hook with a small bobber.

This was caught in a pond on a family friend's property.

Brook Trout from the Crick behind grama's house with dad when I was 3yrs old on a willow branch w/braded line/hook n worm! :)
LOL, you just reminded me of an old memory SmackUm. Not my first fish, but at about 7 my Dad took me up near Algonquin to fish Specks. A friend of his had a camp on a lake and drove us up a stream where we could wade and paddle back to camp by night-fall. As Dad and his friend unloaded the canoe, I decided to cast into a culvert and pulled out a 3 lb Speck on my first cast. Dad looked at me obviously perturbed and said," I have been fishing this stream for 20 years and have never seen a Trout that big."
To tell the truth, I have not seen one that big come out of that stream in the 40 years since then either. I'm glad it was catch and release, my Father insisted. A lesson I learned well over the years. We did keep a few 10-14 inch fish over the years, just nice pan size.
I now have to dig thru some old instamatic photos, cause I'm sure I have pics.

Alfie.

Can't remember specifically but I would put money on the fact it was probably a rock bass off the dock at the cottage when I was a youngin'

First creature ever caught on a rod was a crawfish.
First fish was probably an eel. Cant remember what exactly it was, but do remember catching long, thin, black snakes on fishing hooks when I was in elementary school.
This was all in China and Japan back in the 1990s. Rivers full of stuff right next to my house. Good times.

All caught on bamboo sticks with string(not sure what kind of string but def not fishing string) and hook.

Probably not my first but I remember catching mackerel off a tall pier in nova scotia when I was very young 5/6 ish. IT was non stop action you dropped the line and watched it fall all the way down and then an almost instant fish on and you had the fun of reeling them up the 20-25 feet or so and hope they didnt flip off and fall all the way back down.

First fish was probably a sunfish (pumpkinseed) off the docks at my cottage in Temagami Using my dads gear. WHen i was young i thought dads gear was great but when i got older i realized that Dads gear was a crappy closed face reel and a telescoping rod. His tackle box is full of goodies though. Lots of old lures that you just don't see any more and they still work. :)

hmm i think i was 5-6 in cambpellfored my grandpa bought a 2 dollar rod from a garage sale for me to startoff and a box of worms and on my first cast i had a palm sized (palm sized now) rockbass

My first fish was probably a rock bass or a sunfish caught on a cheap zebco spincast combo with a bobber and worm, fishing off the docks on the trent severn when I was 5 or 6

if i remember correctly my first fish was probably a Porgy or Snappers, always fished with my dad when i was a tot. all we've done was saltwater in nyc.
for a long while used whatever gear he had. they were not anything special or expensive. most were like bigbox brand stuff.

then later on, maybe like 8 years back, i saved up money, i bought my own setup, daiwa emcast surf rod, with a daiwa slx20 reel for surf fishing.
it just spiraled since then. from surf, to jetty, to piers, inshore, offshore, trolling, wrecks, popping, jigging, deep jigging, you name it. except freshwater.
used every brand you can think of; shimano daiwa jm accurate lamiglas stcroix seeker calstar tenryu century zziplex newell penn tiburon blackhole, too many.

as a thanks to my pops, whenever he wants something now. i always get him whatever equipment/tools he needs.

I think I was 4 or 5 at the time.
My dad got my a 6ft ugly stick, I was smashin crappies with it on minnows under a bobber
