Precisely. Steelhead, rainbow, two names for the same fish. Call them whatever you like, they're awesome to catch, and especially when they're fresh out of the lake. The weather in January and February this year was beautiful, so fresh fish showed up early in a lot of spots. I mean double digit...

    Looking for brown trout

Casting distance isn't that important, in fact most of the fish will be close to the pier. Don't cast out 90 degrees off the pier, cast out more like 45 degrees or even along the pier wall so you're in the strike zone longer. Spinners work great but you gotta use a swivel or they'll twist your...

    Looking for brown trout

Absolutely no one is going to share info on streams that have good fishing for resident browns. Those spots are way too few, way too tough to find, and all on private property. But your timing is good, there are some browns off the piers right now. Cast Cleos or Shad Raps early in the morning...

Good nymph rigs for this time of year

Fair enough. But you can do all of that more efficiently with a centerpin outfit, so why not just use that from the start instead of going the more awkward route with a fly outfit? It's not elitist at all (and thanks for noticing that) ... I just don't see the advantage of trying to do any of...

I encourage people to try doing something different. Like fish for crappies. Or salmon. Or resident browns. Why do the same thing as everyone else? I've been fishing steelhead for months now. Time to move on to something fresh and new. I discourage no one - I even said, go have fun. Or did you...

Not a personal issue at all, I just don't like standing shoulder to shoulder with 10 other guys with everyone casting over each other and lots of people acting stupid. Why that's a problem for you, I don't know. Nor do I care.

The spring season is a total gong show. Between the idiots wading through the redds, guys casting over your line, ignorant jerks almost standing on your feet to get into your spot when you hook something, the snaggers, and the fact most of the fish are sucked out from spawning, it's just not...

I couldn't care less about trout opener. I've been fishing steelhead since February. The best fishing was over weeks ago. Now, it's time to get stoked for other species. Have fun kids, and be polite to one another. Personally, I'll be chasing the biggest crappie of the year.

Pike, Bass, Pickerel on a fly

Smallmouth are a lot of fun on a fly rod. Use poppers or deer hair mice, the topwater action is awesome.

That was pretty sick, thanks for the laugh. Beauty coho too.

    March Fishing in Oakville

In May there are a few crappie and perch off Bronte pier, on the marina side. Once the water warms up they disappear tho, I guess they go into the deeper parts of the lake with everything else.

    Stocking a pond, need advice

If there is a current flowing through the pond, where does the water come from and go to? The idea of it having current is a problem. While the pond may be on your property, if water from it leaves your property and goes elsewhere, then no, you can't stock it. You can only stock a "closed...

    Courtesy for spots on tribs

Ethics go two ways though. When conditions are really crowded, why should one guy be entitled to take up half the pool?

Good nymph rigs for this time of year

If you're going to add split shot and indicators and all sorts of other crap, just use a centerpin and be done with it. Once you add weight and "indicators" you're no longer fly fishing, you're adapting fly tackle to something it was never intended to do.

    lake suggestions

Within an 8 - 10 hour drive from Hamilton bass season won't open till the end of June. Better stick to pike and walleye. There's good pike fishing in the Cochrane area, it's around 10 hours but worth it.

    Decent ice fishing?

Long Point Bay on Erie is usually great for perch, but I wouldn't trust the ice right now. +10 degrees and heavy rain is a really bad combo.

Buying A Boat - How Effective

Short answer is, it depends. Here's two 14 foot boats, both made by Lund. One weighs 100 pounds more than the other one, and is a much better made boat. And yes, it costs more. Like, almost twice as much as the lighter one. http://www.lundboats.com/boat-models/ssv-14/...

    Spawning For Steelhead

Some hatchery fish (esp. US fish) are ripe in early winter. Its not natural, they've been created that way in the hatchery by breeding for early spawning fish.
