Tuesday ... and along came Wednesday ...

I had a dream Tuesday night about floats firing under the surface in anticipation of what Wednesday would bring ... a front came through and killed my bonanza . We worked the water hard to get six takers and for them to throw our hooks back in our face .... was , well - frustrating .

    Lake O chrome

Definately the cold seems unimportant when you're hookin' steelies . Looks like you had a great day and ... you caught males !! It seems the Notty males have gone up stream to save spots for spawning or something .

Tuesday ... and along came Wednesday ...

Today we decided to go out a little later than the norm , we started at 11 am and fished in one hole for four hours ( got that TC ) . First two drifts = two beauty hens slush and all . Funny thing was my friend Ray's fish caught the ice ledge and broke him off , he was more upset about the hook...

    Monday ... Monday ...

Family day or should that be " Fishing Day " instead . Sunday night was frigid , I mean really really cold at minus 17 , the morning wasn't much better at minus 8 . We drove off down the ice covered back roads , across the tracks and down to the river . A quick look at the river showed masses...

    winter/spring run

In the Boyne river for example , if the river is at least open down the middle , spawning will take place almost always in mid March . I knew a woman who owned property on the Boyne and she would always inform me as to when the fish were in . Very rarely did they ever spawn much earlier and if...

    winter/spring run

Hi , how are ya. Depending on water height , length of river or how early spawning takes place are all factors . Bigger rivers will have fish in them usually through into the end of May and sometimes June . Where smaller tribs are concerned , it's possible for the majority to be back in the lake...

    Corkies, Spin-n-glow and Okies

We used a bottom rig using a barrel weight then a swivel attached to your leader ,corkie and the hook . The barrel weight allows the line to be pulled without resistance , sometimes we'd place a small shot between the barrel weight and the swivel to protect the knot from being scraped. The...

    I love winter steelheading.

Negative ... I really wanted to but the river was still quite deep in the places where I would have to wade . So I passed it up . Soon I hope after all this snow stops , but then they say rain next week , high 7 , the spring is so touch and go , so unpredictable .

    Credit River Today

Float down ... I'm not commenting on your choices with leaders ... simply a statement ... if fluorocarbon line IS invisible to the fish ... then what difference would it make using a heavier pound line ... say a 6-8 lb. leader ... would it not still be invisible ? Just wondering ...'cause I use...

    I love winter steelheading.

Very nice fish gentlemen ... they sure are beauties , hopefully I'll be hitting 'em in a couple of weeks , when winter goes back into hiding ... As for the white powdery stuff , I know what it is and I've got enough to keep my grass totally covered up here. Calling for possible squalls...

    Corkies, Spin-n-glow and Okies

Used corkies alot bottom fishing with skein at the Ganny , works very well keeping the bait slightly off bottom . Haven't used them in years , I think I have like two left . Brightly coloured in two tone , solid colours too. I'd recommend them for still fishing the bottom .

    Breaking the skunk

'Tis an exceptional winter for sure , I'm still waiting for the Notty to go down ... which is USUALLY frozen for the most part this time of year .
