No fish in the Otonabee River from Peterborough to Lakefield

I haven't been on this forum for awhile but I wanted to ask some questions about the Otonabee River. I've been fishing in the Peterborough area for the last few years and though I have had my share of success in Little Lake in the heart of Peterborough (smallies, suckers, pumpkinseed, and even...

Fishing the Grand River at Dunnville/Port Maitland now

We are having record breaking temperature in Southern Ontario these days, but I was wondering if this warm weather has any effect making fish more active. I'm thinking of taking a trip to Dunnville/Port Maitland to land some Channel Cats on the Grand. I was wondering, though, that despite the...

Fishing in March-April in S. Ontario

I was wondering what types of fish are active and available during this time of the year in Southern Ontario. We have been having quite balmy temperatures right now (hovering mid-teens) and I was wondering what's good to catch right now. Or should I wait until the weather gets a bit warmer to...

Any rivers or lakes in southern Ontario completedly thawed out?

What rivers are you talking about? I know Humber River is flowing, but I want to fish in a body of water outside the GTA.

Any rivers or lakes in southern Ontario completedly thawed out?

I drove by Holland River near Bradford very recently. 99% covered in white ice. I live in Toronto.

    Sucker Run

Does anyone know any popular rivers in southern Ontario during the Spring season where suckers are in large numbers? I know the Grand River in Dunnville and Port Maitland is a good spot. Anywhere else?

Any rivers or lakes in southern Ontario completedly thawed out?

I was wondering if anyone knows any rivers or lakes in southern Ontario that have completely thawed the ice out and is ready for regular fishing? I'm just dying to wet my line again like last summer. Also, when does the ice usually completely melt away in southern Ontario for regular fishing to...

Does anyone know when it is safe to go ice fishing around here?

I've never ice fished in my life, but I want to try this winter. However, what time of the year typically does the ice become stable enough for safe ice fishing in southern Ontario? Thanks.

How's everyone doing with the FALL BITE?! (NON-SALMON)

I'm still doing okay with panfish, perch, and bass. Btw, I think salmonid fishing is way overrated.

CAN WE EAT ONTARIO SALMON AND TROUT?

Who in their right mind would eat a salmonid caught off the rivers in Ontario??

    Fishing spots in the GTA

I prefer the fishing consumption guide. They are more accurate when it comes to knowing which species exist in each body of water.

    GTA polluted spots

If you want to know which fish are safe to eat in bodies of water near the GTA, check this out: http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/publications/590b14-SO.pdf I agree with some of the posters above, salmonids contain the highest mercury levels.

    Lake Aquataine in Mississauga

That is not necessarily true openfire. If you check out the MNR fish consumption guide some ponds in the GTA are not bad. For example, Grenadier Pond in the Humber area or Professors Lake in Brampton. I'd rather eat stuff from there than stuff that comes out of the lower Credit River.

What is the best Gulp Alive product?

I'm not talking about the corn or fake eggs, but the Gulp Alive products that resemble living baits. Which one would you say is the best? Thanks.

    Lake Aquataine in Mississauga

Just don't keep your catches to have a feast. I heard Lake Aquataine is a storm runoff.

What kind of fishing are you guys into?

I like to river fish, lake fish, reservoir fish, conservation area fish, etc. I like to fish for anything except salmonids (I know, I am weird).

Catching other types of fish at Port Credit

Okay, where is this Spot 22? Also, I was asking about non-salmonid fishes. Fly-fishing only works for salmonids (which I don't like).

Catching other types of fish at Port Credit

I know that NOW people are fishing for salmonid species at Port Credit. I was wondering though if other types of fish species (i.e., carp, catfish, pike, bass) are also at the mouth of the Credit River right now. Can other types of fish exist alongside salmon or trout in a river when it is...

Using a trolling rod as a spinning rod

I was wondering if anyone here can help me with this issue. I recently purchased a 8 foot trolling rod with up to 30lbs test but I want to use a spinning reel on it. The guides are supposed to face up and only conventional reels should be used with (according to the tackle store worker). What if...
