wilcox and the surrounding water bodies

Thanks for all your work-I live in Stouffvile and want to fish the surrounding area and apparently Musselman's Lake just north on Ninth line is virtually all private property-land ,water, surface of water and under the water-I surely don't want to be fined by someone reporting me.apparently good...

    Another GREAT Day of FISHING!!!

Great pics and now thanks to you..I have the itch to get my line wet-I guess the pile of work will have to wait. And I guess it's Queen's Quay and not Ashebridges where I had intend to go-excellent early season(or is it late season?)pike.

    Reel maintenance

IIRC the quality reels have a basic maintenance pamphlet with the reel itself 8) and some even a a little bottle of lube oil. However 2 tips are to clean off all gunk from reel ,wipe down and always loosen the drag on spinning reels until the next trip.

    Using shrimp as bait?

Maybe it's the freshwater vs.saltwater thing? But I've used peeled (deshelled) crawfish to tip my jigs with good success-so I can't believe shrimp can be all that different. However I've noticed that bait shape does make a significant difference: a longer shape with fluttery tail(like a minnow...

Pike,bass,walleye,catfis,trouts-although not necessarily.. ..in that order depending on seasons and type of fishing trip i'm on(short day trip vs.longer over-nighter or with kids/nephews-nieces-their little friends or with other hardcore fishing types etc)and of course the ever present ,ever...

The most exciting thing about fishing is.... ?

Getting outdoors, getting some much needed.. ..exercise(albeit light),seeing some great wildlife, getting all "fussy" about lure and bait selections, anticipating the "bite",and very much most of the time, meeting likeminded anglers and outdoorsmen, also looking forward to a good meal of fresh fish. :D

    Who Eat Sunfish?

You are right about the questionable quality.. .. of some the the areas around the GTA but i don't think one has to go way ,way north (after all there is pulp and paper mills ,septic tanks, farm runoffs etc everywhere)I always try to look at the "Ontario Sports Guide to Eating Fish"and I...

Did you bring the...? Oh man....

A cheap sheath made from an old cellphone holster with the sewn in-to the shape of that particular pair of pliers is what I use nowadays and the readily availability and safety is a relief from the before frantic hunt for them at the bottom of the tackle box-especially after a big fish is...

    Sheep Head

Also try the Burlington Lift Bridge .. ..off the Lakeshore rd -can be very good for Lake trout and salmon-sometimesyou can even see their dorsal fins-about 10 years ago I saw a very big salmon there and as lark I tossed a silver Rapala Fatrap to it and lo and behold the salmon struck it and I...

    Sheep Head

Go to Princess' Point Park rightoff .. the 403 and the Lakeshore(Its been some years since I lived in Hamilton (so forgive me if I'm a little fuzzy on road names-can show you immediately if i were there) .you can see easily the road that leads to the much larger Coote's Paradise and the road...

    Who Eat Sunfish?

Thanks for those kind words... ...but I'm not kidding ,sunfish, perch and catfish can be all prepared this way and it's very good-not just when "I'm starving and I've got to eat it or else....".In many parts of the states sunfish is a very well sought after for its sporting and culinary...

    Sheep Head

Meat is actually white and firm and if prepared properly.. ..maybe very difficult to distinguish from walleye or pike...however they are like suckers in havinga downward pointing mouth and do feed off the bottom(not garbage -IIRC mollusks, small fish, insects etc)-good fighters and easily caught...

What size Pike and Bass are in Valens conservation?

Unfortuneatly Valens is a fish sanctuary and doesn't open for fishin until-IIRC June 22nd or so as this allows the LM bass to complete their spawn -too bad as the early pike might be very good as the really large ones ones stay shallow and recuperate after their earlier spawn. The bluegill...

    Who Eat Sunfish?

As with virtually all freshwater fish... ...you have to fillet them -no need to scale,or even gut them -the classic fillet style or the Canadian version will work- no bones as you remove the rib cage as the second step. The sunfish do have to be at least a 1/4 of a pound and the meat is quite...

What size Pike and Bass are in Valens conservation?

As a young man living in Hamilton I've fish there many times and one time (1983?)I 've hooked pike which then bit me off ,taking (no leader)spinnerbait with it and the pike was easily 30-35+ inches(10+ lbs?) since I got him less then 4 feet from my boat-he took 1 look at me and snap his head...

    Your 3 best lures

3/8 oz.Leadhead jig with chartreuse twister tail (and often a small scrap of fish belly /worm for "sweetening"),3/8-1/2 oz. spinnerbait(white skirt or if no skirt twister tail/sassy had dressing) and Rapala minnow(silver body)-left out a lot more though.
