I would not throw a lure heaver then the rod rating. I learned the hard way and ended with a broken rod...apz245 said:thanks bassr, been doing a lot of reading on the topic the last couple of days and everything matches with what you've said.
another thing i'm nervous about now though is the lure rating.. my heaviest lures are 1 oz spoons, could I still throw these with a rod only rated up to 5/8 oz? I think i'd be risking it
I think the fenwick HMG or HMX would be a better choice for the lures I throw, 7'0, M, x-fast, 4-12 lb line, 1/4-1 1/4 oz lure rating, simply because they come in two piece where as there are no MH 2 piece spinning models from abu garcia
Dont wanna make the same mistake with the first expensive spinning rod I buy, already broke my okuma float rod this season, thanks for the headsup.. gonna grab the fenwick most likely and stay within the recommended lure rating, which shouldn't be too hard as its basically the range of the lures I ownFishingNoob said:I would not throw a lure heaver then the rod rating. As much as I love the veritas, get the rod that's right for you, and that rod sounds like the fenwick. ENJOY!apz245 said:Dont wanna make the same mistake with the first expensive spinning rod I buy, already broke my okuma float rod this season, thanks for the headsup.. gonna grab the fenwick most likely and stay within the recommended lure rating, which shouldn't be too hard as its basically the range of the lures I own
No problem. Let's hope we're both lucky in the bass/pike department, when the season opens.apz245 said:thanks again noob and everybody for clearing this up for me, its confusing business
