How did you manage to get that carp to fit in that net?

i remember we went carping last year, and i only brought the small frabill folding net, my bro managed to net the fish after 5 attempts we had to face the net against the wall cause 1/3 of the fish was sticking out of the net, LOL!!!!

Right when I thought carping was easy, they kick me right in the ass.

Sorry @Shawarma for not getting you on your first carp.
No worries man. Was good meeting and fishing with you guys. Next time! I'll hook into sure carp soon.

Thanks for the tips.

I currently have a hi-vis neon yellow line, would they be able to see my line and be line shy?
Also are they hook shy? Would you want your hook to be fully covered with bait?
You can use your pin w/o float. a couple of split shots or an egg sinker. I prefer split shots (2) if it's calm water, only because carp are very sensitive to resistance. If there's flow I use an egg sinker. 3 feet leader (2) from the swivel.

I changed my mainline to mono from hi-vis and I'm struggling to see my line now...haha.

I hope to catch a carp on my centerpin soon.

^ lol. He was putting in some work looking for them, so good on him! Part of the fun of fly fishing for them.

I'm lazy when it comes to spooling. my pin has hi vis pink line. i use longer leaders. I use 6lb fluoro leader. carps are heavy as f**k. but if you know how to play 'em you will be fine. I find them similar to suckers but just heavier.

Had horrible luck on the weekend, didnt catch any. saw lots, they were spawning though.

Caught one this morning before work:

Went out yesterday and managed to get into some fish, we located a big group of carp in a river. They where very spooky, more so than the steelhead we also saw. After a few hours and some carp under 2 pounds landed I got one that was around 12 pounds, put up a decent fight on a pin and float rod. Also got a sheep head around 8lbs

@Ditch

An 8-10 to 12lber that you caught will often give you a better battle than some low-mid 20's, and I'm guessing he was very 'perky' after you landed it -(Fins extended, and a stressed rigid tail? Their usually very finnicky)

Those youngins have a ton of energy, moreso than alot of the bigger specimens I've captured. You'd think you caught something alot bigger with the way they pick up your hookbait and run and thrash at your rod tip ;)

But its all good! Carp are a load of fun, so keep at it bro!

*Just because you see carp, doesnt mean you will catch carp* Just like any other fish, they have their challenges and are by no means, 'easy to catch'

I might try that next....pin and float rod...just for giggles. It sounds like it would be fun! Then after that on the fly! LOL...what the heck!
