Its pretty obvious that the mnr doesnt care about what goes on during snagging, opps i mean salmon season. So lets take the matter into our own hands. Start fishing in big groups and when u see a loogan netting,snagging or even just throwing some trash onthe ground rip there heads off (verbally). If word gets out that there are groups of guys looking for loogans and aggressively confronting them (again only verbally) then they will get the message and go back to mountsberg where they belong. Seriously guys all it takes is a bit of yelling and maybe a phone call to scare most poachers away. There is strength in numbers!!!! Man up get together and go around confronting these guys, im sure if a group of 4-6 guys approached a snagger while hes snagging and say "wtf are u doing!!!! get out of here before the cops show up "(feel free to add your own favourite 4 letter words to get the message across) they will take off, if that dont work, take a million pics, videos, audio recording anything and spread that shit on the net, youtube, facebook, forums, the news, tons of places to expose these loosers. I know me and some buddies have my beloved trib on loogan lockdown this year and i hope some of you do to. Us young guys are the next generation of float fishing lets not sit back and let this happen by just taking a picture and calling the MNR aka ministry of NO RESULTS. So remember if u see a snagger and ur with some buddies or even by urself if U KNOW u are able to defend urself if need be, do something about it!!!!! And i dont mean telling him what hes doing is wrong theyalready know that. O and if u get the "me no speaka da engwish" as a response, even better, im sure if they are being yelled at by 5 guys in languages they cant understand ittl scare em even better. Lets take control of our waters and flush the loogans out, its gotta happen eventually or lake o is gonna have a salmon shortage just like huron and im sure non of us want that although i believe its already started, If anyone fishes west and wants to help out just shoot me a pm, the more angry fishermen who confront a loogan the better chance they wont come back to your trib.



Remember no physical violence!!!! , last thing u want is some loogan suing u but use your vocals to there fullest extent theres nothing illegal bout informing someone they are breaking the law.

No place inpaticular although every lake o trib has its known "slaughter pool" so those are good places to keep an eye out. And use discretion/common sense when approaching people, if they are huge and ur not, stay away lol i only recommend confirmations if your with a few other people.

I think the problem of snagging is sort of complex in a way. The guys blatantly hooking fish on the body are sort of like the tip of the ice berg so to speak. What's often overlooked is the number of people who go the flossing route. Every now and then you hear some guy brag about how they caught hooked 30 salmon using just ear plugs or some small fly. These guys represent not only the majority of snaggers, but the majority of salmon fisherman and there's really nothing that can be done about it other than educate people because this sort of thing can be done on traditional steelhead setups and it'll look like the fish actually went for it. So I just don't think it's worth confronting anyone or calling the hotline when so many people are doing it. I know this might sound weird, but I think the best thing to do is to not do anything, unless you see guys trying to net dozens of fish or something cause then it's serious.

One of the purposes of this post is because i know this forum just like any others are watched by more loogans looking for free info on salmon, maybe a few will read this and think twice about pulling loogan tactics now that theres a group of people looking out for that crap on west tribs, to the lurker loogans on the forum, watch out were comin for ya

Amen, I just read this post and totally agree. Best way is to form a committee and raise awareness and just be publicly active. Get local communities involved and contact the MNR and try to get them to support a cause of some sort. People go about things the wrong way. Believe me, every time I am on Rice Lake and see 7 guys on a 15 ft tin boat with a 9.9 motor on it I want to go over there and get some of them in my boat and bring them back to shore because of how dangerous that is. You hear about things like people drowning in rice lake because of a boat accident, not because of people being drunk but just do not obey the laws of the boat and water and sure enough, fatalities happen! People have gotten boat rental places shut down up here for renting a boat to a large amount of people over weight/person limit in the boat. They contacted their respective authorities and sure enough justice was dealt.

I know violence is not the way, but its real hard to stand there and watch all the shit these people do. Its not just "snaggers", its anyone who has no respect for nature in general. Today I just came back from my fishing hole this morning. 3 men, a woman and a kid were fishing with only about 10 feet of line, no rod no reel. like cave man $hit. They caught about 15 sun fish and bass within 10 mins. I was so F@#$ing furious I just left and went home. Im not mad because they were catching fish, I was upset because the fish they were keeping were wayyy to small. I looked into their bucket and it was so pathetic. The only reason I didnt tip their bucket is because I was fishing with my old man today and I didnt want to start any trouble around him. I told the family they were pieces of Sh*t and the amount of gas money they wasted to go fishing coulda bought way more fish then what they had. They really didnt understand what I was saying, but I can tell the 2 younger guys had an idea.

i think the "big" issue with snaggers is the fact they keep the fish. there is no real reason to keep any of the salmon, they are zombies, half dead boots. yeah some people will keep one or 2 females for roe. but i know for a fact they are not eatable fish, at least if they are from lake O. i feel real bad for the people that "have" to eat them b/c they have no money for food. but the rest of us with $1000 dollar set ups and gear would never need to keep any fish from lake O. the only fish i keep to eat are the bows from lake Heron.. in the fall.

i seen a piss poor family the one day at bronte, flossing salmons that where black as charcoal. they had the oldest most beaten up gear i have ever seen, they were keeping males with rotten fins. at first i thought about saying something to them about snagging them.. but i realized they are only trying to live and eat what they can... i felt bad and decided to just lit them carry on... they ended up with 4 huge males. i asked if they were going to eat them, they said they were and seemed very happy about it..

the problem i have r these A-holes that catch more then 5 females cut the bellies just for roe and leave the fish on the banks... they are the real problem.. they are the ones that will need to watch out for me... if i see it i will start to throw rocks! from the forest.. along will yelling and calling MNR or OPP..

i guess we all have to analyze the situation before making mountains out of mole hills...

Sure times are tough, but I highly doubt that anyone would be fishing for survival in the city, esp in Oakville. Dont let them fool you. Alot of people are just frugal and CHEAP and spend no cash if they dont gotta. And alot of people Snag fish because in other countries it is a choiceful method of fishing, and they are just too ignorant to abide by our laws, or too dumb to not want to learn them. Sure the family you have seen could have been an exception, and in that case right now I am eating my foot. But man, dont let looks fool you. Did you check the ride they came in on? 2012 model?
