Glad you like that I'm a frugler....lol. Maybe Merriam Webster will enter it as a real word one day.

Frugler; pronounciation (fru-ga-ler)
A person who is willing to go out of their way to find inexpensive and best deals on fishing equipment irregardless of time and gas spent to attain a bargain. Once acquired, this person is also willing to spend countless hours in persuit of one or mutiple fish species neglecting family, work and other social responsibilities.

Psychology: The frugler is an obsessive compulsive disorder bordering on near narcosis. As like many substance abusive individuals, the frugler thinks fish and fishing 24/7. Currently there are no know cures or intervention that will help these individuals. May God have mercy on their souls.

I stopped at the Dollar Tree, where everything is $1.25. There are not alot of these stores around, but they do not have fishing equipment at all. But I did find this cool doublesided tackle/parts box. There were only 2 on the shelf and I got both, 1 is destined for plumbing parts....lol. The other I may use for either target fishing tackle like panfish, I have one for bass/pike already. Plano's are great but they are getting expensive, here is the frugal angler's alternative. Maybe we should call ourselves fruglers...lol...or fruggies....lol.

I've seen boxes like that one at Dollarama... and they smell... funky. I don't know about putting plastics in those, it might put off the fish ??? just my speculation

Both were on a spoon from dollarama

I've caught atleast 15 pike on the same spoon...treble has been holding up good,

The pond I've been going to supposably has bass in it but I have had no luck this year, just pike avg 1.5-2lbs
 
I have a Dollarama right near my place. I never thought to check for fishing gear there. I think I need to check it out and maybe grab some new spinners.

Where are these Dollarama's that you guys are going to? In the city or on the outskirts? I wonder if the downtown Toronto locations would still carry fishing gear.

The treble will hold up for small fish but get something of size on there and theres a good chance it can bend right open. Want to be fruegel and still catch big fish? Get some quality treble hooks from a fishing store and the rings and swap em out. Then there is nothing to worry about. Your $1 lure will now be a $1.5-2 lure but the quality difference will more than make up for it.

Do a test. Take some pliers and try to bend open one of the trebles and see how easily you can do it. It should not be easy to bend open. Maybe they are different from when I tried them out 3 years ago but back then the hooks were a joke.
 
Had to go out to Dollarama and update myself with the current prodcut line...couldnt help myself lol. See below.....treble hooks on the spoons are no better than back when I used to buy them. They actually are a little bit better but I was still able to bend the hook with my hand.



I still bought four of the spoons and I will just switch out the hooks. I was actually looking for a spoon that was lighter than my cleo's and these fit the bill.

I did see a texas rigged crawfish that seemed ok for $1, but for that price you could buy the hooks and the craws separately and do it for the same price. The spinner baits seem decent, at $2 they arent much cheaper than the low end ones at the fishing store but I bought one to check it out.

The hooks were not as bad as I expected them to be. The metal is pretty weak, but small hooks like that are more difficult to bend so they are ok, nowhere near the quality of brand name hooks.

Saw some plugs and cranks and they looked pretty bad, I didnt wanna waste my dollar on them. Cheap plastic and cheap hooks.

All in all not nearly as bad as I was expecting.

Thanks for the product test! :D You are absolutely right, I bought a box of trebles from LeBaron years ago, back then there were 25 in abox. I think they still have them. Along with the split rings, it's cheap to change. Most of the time lure building parts are cheap, as long as limit yourself to certain sizes. Getting every hook, spinner blade, clevis.....etc size is going to far. Just stick to basic sizes.
I totally forgot to stop off there today, dam it....lol.

I'm sure Dollarama crankbaits can catch fish, but they are sub-par compared to slightly more expensive WalMart cranks, due to poor action and cheap components.

Certain Dollarama spinners have great colour and action, and the trebles on them are just fine.

Dollarama spoons, at least the ones I have seen and purchased, are on par with any other spoon in terms of weight, colour, design, and hooks.

Dollarama hooks, the ones that are 90 pcs for a buck, have never broken on me, and I've caught multiple steelhead with the same hook.

The tougher Mako hooks, 9pcs for a buck, are indestructible and perfect for salmon.

I don't use spinnerbaits or softbaits so I can't comment on those.
 
I should add, do not trust the little box that the 90 hooks come in. Otherwise you may end up with waders full of tiny hooks.

LOL last week I went out with my nephew and I had that little box of hooks to catch sunfish and it spilt in my tackle box and I thought to myself... thank god I'm not wearing waders right now :)

I went to a couple in Scarb. When your driving by one just stop in, each one will have different stock.
