Hey all,

I watch fishing shows almost exclusively, that will likely change now that the lockout is done, and I've never seen a show with anyone trib fishing for salmonoids using Centerpins.

I rarely see shows where guys are river fishing for steelhead, and when they are, they are usually on the fly or baitcast reel.

Are hosts just too unfamiliar to tackle the tackle? Or are CP anglers a small little part of the fishing world that nobody worries about?

With the cost of the equipment, I am not sure why there aren't at least a couple manufacturers hammering some marketing out on tv.
I've seen rapala setups in the last year or so, and I've wondered why I haven't seen marketing. Seeing they are one of the biggest names in fishing.

Can anyone picture Dave Mercer drifting a roe bag?
Bob Izumi?

I can't really picture Mercer completing a precision drift, but I don't know... I think that over all CP anglers are too small a group and too specific. Fly guys can swing the flies year long, I don't know, but I can't really imagine guys using CP for suckers.

i know this is going to be a huge dillemma for some and some of you meat floaters (hahaha)may require medical attention however here are the facts;

CP is a small community and having them use CP reels will not increase sales as the market is small to say the least-- we all know they will have no choice but to use imperials anyway..lol
now here is the real kicker---have you ever watched someone center pin fishing--i have seen mold forming with more excitement--its fun as poop but watching it is painful.
they also mostly fish lakes so a plug for--boats-motors etc can be added to the marketing--the rivers on tv are for the fly guys--fact.

moral of the story--lose the CP and get a fly rod hahahahahahahahaha...here we go...

I know it's Italo, but still...lol

Sucker fishing on the pin is a blast in the spring. Last year we did it to scratch the itch before trout opener (of course in sections of the river that are open year long only).

I've seen a lot of guys fly fish schnippy, the only reason it's exciting to watch is because its hilarious. Why do you have a $450 reel if you strip all your line into the river anyway? (Off topic)

All fishing appears boring until the hook is set. It's not like you watch 1/2h of jigging, or trolling, or repetitive casting.

CP's are a small market right now, but with exposure could be as big as any other.

I think it's hilarious seeing "fly" fishermen using STRIKE-INDICATORS and "egg pattern" flies to catch steelies. That's float fishing using a fly rod in my books.

Off topic again

Float_on is right. I hate to say it, but fly fishing is one heck of a handicap. If Dave Mercer were to do shows about catching steelhead with a centerpin, chances are a lot of people will go buy centerpins. It's just the way it is.

ya almost as funny as a hunter using bullets in his gun...cracks me up every time....fly guys arent magicians if eggs work they work---did you think they hypnotize the fish to believe the caddis is actually the eggs they were looking for? and when you watch TV the boat is rocking, waves, birds the whole deal--centre pin is standing on the shore--definition of insanity if you are watching it...

I get into big spring sheepshead up north every year. So powerful. This year I'm taking the pin for sure. Those things burn line off a spinning reel with ease.

Ok. I'm not trying to make this one of "your threads" schnipper... You win.

I'm not sure who you fly guys try to fool, the fish or yourselves.

mark pendlington just did a show not long ago with CP reels, he was using the rapala r-type with the matching rapala 11'6" float rod, fishing steelhead in bc....made me laugh since he was using 15lb mainline with a 14lb leader

click on the maribou jigs for steelhead video

its schnip not schnipper for starters--

--why dont you ask some of the accomplished fly fisherman on here why they fool themselves?--or better yet the millions of fly fisherman worldwide

there is no doubt the CP is ideal for steels

I am just saying from a business perspective...it would be in the companies best interests to market the reels that they are retailing for $2-3-4-500.

Not to mention the priciest loomis rods are float rods, not "technique specific" bass rods. Market those GLX's!

you don't know loomis too well then....their spey rods are upwards of $1300....their float rods are 600, hell my 8wt nrx is over 750

in lieu of previous posts about fly guys i doubt there has been any "price checking" done on fly rods lol
