Are you sure you don't mean that it take 2.5 times more crude to make gas than diesel? Diesel has way less refinement than diesel, so you would think that you need more to make gas.

It may not be 2.5 times but it is more, they add a lot of stuff too gas so they get more out of gas. As you said diesel is not as refined. Just do a search on the net to find out more info if you have time.

Gas is now $120/barrel, its wierd how its just going up like they predicted but they are blaming the strike in the UK and Nigeria Attacks, so did they forsee the strikes and the attacks?......makes you wonder. Either way I'm sure they are playing us....

Actually. You get the .5 of diesel as you do gas out of a barrel of crude, but diesel is cheaperand faster to make then gasoline. You can break a 55 gallon drum down into: 20 gallons of gasoline, 7 gallons of diesel, 5 jet fuel, 2 LPG, and the rest is other products used for energy.

Diesel has a lot of additives as well. Standard diesel contains anti-bactirial agents, on top of every other chemical added to gasoline.

Why deisel is more expensive then gas now?

One is the eviroment. In order to get ULSD (Ultra low sulfer diesel) the emissions must be less then 15ppm. Which is also why these days you see less black smoke belching out of the trucks stacks and why it doesnt stink as much. The process of making ULSD is still fairly new on its feet, and like when we went fron Leaded gas, to unleaded it will take time to settle.

Thats the only one I have proof of. Other ones that kinda make sense are:

From my experience, when the price of diesel increases, it tends to be unoticed as most of us drive gasoline vehicles. Most of the voting public wont notice if diesel goes up 5c a litre overnight. Now, my work truck holds 1000L on its twin tanks (its a western star tractor) how much more money did they make on that 5c increase, and how many trucks are out there? LOTS. Its agreat way to make money if you dont want the public to know!

Diesels get better fuel milage and have better range over the same amount of gas. You go further on diesel and spend less. The government is making up for thier losses as more people purchase diesels. -Possible.

All In all. I know what its all about. I dont think its the middle east or politics or crap. its all about...

I agree Fox what is it 36% of the cost is tax i think the government is just making money off of us. Actually I know they are they charge us for every little service throught the butt and now they're getting into the gas!

This is weird too basically the goverment is making more money based on the price of gas so the fact that this year the price is up so much they will make millions in extra taxes then ever before, so why don't they only charge a certain percent up to lets say a $1/liter then after the $1 only charge like 15% just like our personal taxes well the opposite. Then they try to smoke screen us by taking 2% off the GST in the last 2 years.

@ 1.22.6/liter they make roughly $.40 in taxes X how many millions of liters per day?

Yup.. And to add more fuel to the fire or spark conspiracy..

Utimatily, the government has the power and ability to set a cap price on just about any product to prevent gouging. I think that this was done once in the late 70's-early 80's. Where is it now?

Government would loose a lot of revenue.. So I can see why they let the oil companies run rampant with this. Me. I hypermile.

I hate to be a bearer of bad news but I don't think that gas has anywhere to go but up, and that is not even talking about if a crisis happens in the middle east.

Another interesting side note: 60% of the oil that is imported into north america, comes from countries that are not very fond of us.

that's nice to hear.. lol

Not very reassuring at all..

Im kinda surprised with all of the high crude related energy prices we arent seeing an influx of electric or hydrogen vehicles.

There still got a long way to go although there is promising things I hear about new battery technology and fuel cell advancements.

Oh I know the companies are.. "working" on it.

I remember in the 90's there was the Ev-1, Rav4EV, and a few other pure electric vehicles.

As for hydrogen. Stan Myers made one in the 80's. The technology is there.

Its just so frustrating to sit at the pumps filling up a minivan (70L) and watching my pay go away. I dont make a whole lot as is.

Didn't the oil companies kill the EV-1? I've seen the documentary "who killed the electric car". Thats was over 10 years ago with the tech they have now they can do much better if they wanted, look at the telsa roadster for example they already upgraded it to be faster and hold more amps in less then a year.

I don't understand why the goverment & oil compnaies are so greedy don't they already have trillions, then gm chooses to release hybrids in china before north america most likely cause north americas have more money to just stay paying for gas cars. funny how they came out with a hybrid just like that gotta hate how corporations think.

Look who made some coin.....Thats just one company the gov makes 36% tax from all companies! plus taxes the companies!

That was an interesting movie. I didnt mind it.

Ive noticed the price has gone down a few pennies. I wonder if they are going to crank it up for Victoria Day weekend?

Gone down? just filled up @ 123.5! I wonder how they come up with that number 1...2...3..? We could be in trouble if they are finally learning how to count.

Hey guys just wanted to throw this out their, im sure im not the only one out their that cant afford to go out and buy a new car, but if you can I have one to reccommend. I got a new company vehicle for work a ford (i personally hate ford but this one seems nice enough) Escape hybrid. It used gas to start and after that its alllllll electric. Its weird because its super quite when you idling you dont know its even running except for the occasional alternator clicking on to charge any additional power needed. This vehicle goes forever on a tank of gas, Im talking 700kms+ easy.
I wanted a civic to beat these prices, but now im thinking the F ound.O n.R oad.D ead / F ixed.O r.R epaired.D aily might be the way to go.
Chris

Ya i here that Hyperfox, I know im not in any position to go buy one myself, but getting to use one everynight at work is working great for me, i dont mind driving when its not my pocket the $ is coming out of.
And then their is the whole ford thing, but its still better than my Grand Am,V6 gas gussling #$%^&.lol
