I'm fairly new to salmon/trout river & pier fishing. I've been in Erindale Park and Bronte a fair bit over the last few weeks. I've been using a spining reel and thinks like meps/panther martin spinners and some small kwik fish. I've noticed the majority of people using float rigs, I had to look up what it was they were! (by the way, http://www.fishonlineca.com is excellant). Anyways, these seem to be the most preferred method. Is there any point to using cast/retrieve tackle like spinners? Or should I invest in some float, hooks, eggs, etc?

I learnt form this thread too. It's best to buy some hooks about size 4, and some eggs.

Since we're so close to the end of September, would you think that the fish would have moved further up-stream, thus more salmon?

My girlfriend's parents live on a farm in Meaford. Tomorrow's conditions is calling between 2mm-4mm of rain. Might seem really far north, but her parents have told me that they see salmon fishing by their property all the time. This usually happens around Thanks Giving time. BTW, would fishing season regulations still apply on private property?

I thought they would have moved up by now , but even in Mississauga, they are not in large numbers yet.

the rod does most of the work and then the drag and then the user

I have tried Maxx too and that's good. fair price for good quality. They have some brand fluorocarbon that are extremely expensive but I am not sure if they are better

fisher if your gonna go with trilene i fined trilene sensation the best for steelhead/salmon. I used this when i first started off, then moved on to more popular brands.

yes, but keep in mind the lighter the line you use the farther you can cast light lures....if you have a long rod 4lb test would be enough for steelhead with the drag set on right

I gotta stop being lazy and use a flouro leader....
