Was driving by a certain western trib today in an area that is certainly closed season. 2 guys were climbing up from the river with 6 Chrome and a Brown on a stringer.
Took some pics of them and the license plate. Sent to MNR.
Half hour later as we drove back the OPP had these guys pulled over and the fish were on the side of the road.
You're not "ratting", these guys are stealing from you and I and our kids.
Maybe it doesnt work like that all the time, but even if they get 2 guys the rest of us ethical anglers gain a step and maybe a message reaches other poachers.
Take pics and call MNR TIPS.

Keeping more than the limit of fish. And from a sanctuary. I would guess thousands in fines.

Bless you buddy, great work.

I'm not really that knowledgable but what is the punishment surrounding that? .. if anyone knows!
hefty fines, confiscated fish, gear and vehicle, up to the discretion of the officer

haha Loogans

I did hear that some of the OPP was getting trained to handle some fisheries offences. Good thing because we all know how under funded the mnr is

Altho I'm not sure, I think the Mnr must have called the OPP in after my call.
Glad to see any poachers busted. Like I said, they are stealing from you and I.

In real life? Police laying the charges? Couple hun in fines each upon conviction, at best, that's if they plead out. If they lose at trial, face value of the set fine on each charge, if there is a set fine.

I believe they can be fined pretty heavily and all fishing gear can be confiscated, and vehichles too.
I saw it happen in Owen Sound years ago. 3 guys had 2 Chrome out of season, 2000 fines each, boat and gear taken.

Can? Yes, under certain circumstances. Your average PC isn't going to wade into that though, not without extensive knowledge.

Exactly.. I think if I ask, 10 people at work, I'd be surprised if I get one or two that actually know the rules.

We are bombarded and overloaded with all types of laws and regs to remember. Even if you're trained on it but don't use it often, that knowledge base will slowly erode...

I'd bet most people fishing know more about the fishing laws and regs than avg cop.

Yes, but how many " avg cops " fish and know the laws and regs? I know 2 Peel cops who fish regularly and know the regs well. And I only know 2 cops so that is 100%. Lol.

Hey I wish to thank you guys who PMed with concerns about me due to what I posted.
The facts of my story are true. But I was also aware of the possibility of repercussions from possible lurkers, so some details were altered, including the actual date.
I am just making a point, that these guys are stealing from us and our children. You can make a difference.
