3. Lakers.
4. Whitefish.
5. Lakers
im in for either day.January 20th was going to be the date, but with 10-20mm of rain in the forecast for tomorrow and spring like weather, I really want to wait for some colder temperatures and better ice conditions.
Looks like it's supposed to cool down by end of next week - if we get persistent cold weather for a week or two and some ultra cold ice-building temps - we can go ahead.
Sunday, February 3rd, would be the next possible date depending on how the weather goes.
February 3rd is the day, pending ice conditions. Forecast for late next week is looking ok for ice building.
any idea on the lake yet?

You seem to be quite tuned in ti which lakes are frozen and which are good to fish. Maybe you could recommend somewhere in Hali. that would be a good bet for ice(and fish) for Feb 3 w/o giving away too many secrets.
no way will joe or rosseau be totally safe in two weeks still mostly open.
are you sure ?have you check the weather for up there? lows of -10 and colder for the next 14 days pretty much.
Following are the criteria I have been considering while searching for a suitable lake:
1. Has lake trout
2. Is small (better ice, not everyone will have a fish finder, higher concentration of fish, less walking around)
3. Somewhere in Haliburton or Muskoka region, or not far from there
A large parking lot is not necessary, I'm betting most people will be in on the carpool for the sake of saving $ on gas. So there shouldn't be a whackload of vehicles coming. A bit of a hike into the lake is ok, but nothing excessively long. Ideally we can park right beside or close to the lake.
Bonus if it has other game fish (whitefish, pike, walleye), and bonus if there are other lakes nearby for a contingency plan, but not necessary. Also would be nice to have a bathymetry map, or for someone in our group to have experience with the lake, but again not essential.
So redneckchromer, if you have the scoop on some tiny lake trout lakes, all the better that they're small! The reality is that not everyone that wants to go will be able to make it, so overcrowding should not be a problem.
